New Pledge of Allegiance!

Since the Pledge of Allegiance and The Lord's Prayer are not allowed in most
public schools anymore Because the word "God" is mentioned....
A kid in Arizona wrote the attached NEW School prayer.
I liked it....


Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all.
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.

It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!

kind of a touchy subject.as an atheist i am against teaching children that they must follow the one god their parents picked out and that all those who believe otherwise are going to hell.which unfortunately is the way it usually goes.
but on the other hand,as an atheist i have still said the pledge of allegiance hundreds and hundreds of times and i wasnt harmed in any way.i just dont really see what the big deal is.i still managed to think on my own and decided my religious beliefs all my myself.saying the pledge didnt scar me in any way.

This past Friday my son's hs football team played a Catholic school's team for the first time. A prayer was said before the game. It kinda freaked the kids out. And my son's only objection to it was what about the kids that either have a different religion other than Christianity or are athiest.

but really it doesnt affect anybody if they dont let it.its like when i have to sit through any kind of catholic service(funeral or wedding)
i dont believe in any of their hocus pocus but it isnt going to kill me to sit there.i just look straight ahead while everyone bows their heads and i stay seated when they are doing the kneel,stand up,kneel,sit down,stand up thing.
the only part that freaks me out a bit is when strangers from the row behind you start with the hand shaking and hugging thing.i try not to hug people i dont know

Poem misses the point... it's one thing for any kid to express their belief in god (or in purple hair) but quite another when a child is forced to acknowledge god.

It should have never been added by the Christians in the first place.

But then I wonder what the value of a pledge is that's said rote, not learned and understood and chosen.

you could always just let your kids decide about religion for themselves

what if i was in one of those jesus freak states where they dont even allow evolution to be taught?i bet they'd put me in jail because of it.so of course i would put my hand on the bible and swear to god.because just like the pledge,even though i dont believe any of that crap it isnt going to hurt me to do it.

I thought the point was that we allow all kinds of different behavior and topics in most schools but SOME schools are no longer allowing kids to pray in School or have discussions about their Christian Beliefs. I just feel that everyone should be allowed to follow their Religious beliefs in their own way as long as they do not force it on others or cause harm to others. No one should be forced to say a prayer if they don't want to.

i really think kids should be exposed to all different religions,including the lack of,when they are young.let them decide for themselves what they believe.if a kid chooses to be catholic for whatever reason then fine,i will respect his beliefs.and he would most likely respect other peoples also.
but forcing kids into catholic schools,sunday school and all this other religious crap at an early age,telling them it's our way or hell is not healthy.that is how you teach people to be intolerant of each other.
i dont care what your beliefs are,i will respect them up until the point when you try to tell me i'm wrong for not believing in your god.which is what almost all religious people do.

I don't think that's the case. I think the issue is whether the government-run school should or should not be giving the appearance of endorsing one religion over another.

Individuals can believe and express whatever they want.

UH Lee have you ever listened to the Hymns sang each and every Sunday
Morning/afternoon/evening???
How many of those people ever think on what they are singing.

not at all a put down just a correlation.

The Pledge must remain in every American school.......... That unless you are home schooled..............
