I didn't say I was hoping for an acquittal! Generally, when a jury reaches a quick verdict it means an acquittal. As a law major in college this was one of the many things we learned about juries. Every jury is different lets just hope they get it right.buffettbride wrote:The same thing can be said of convictions.BottleofRum wrote:Considering the new jury just started deliberating this morning this is very quick. If history is any indication quick verdicts usually mean an acquittal.

Oh I know..that's why I was laughing. Unfortunately I think even if he is found guilty, that it won't be a difficult appeals process to get a new trial because of the juror issues. I'm most definitely NOT a lawyerBottleofRum wrote:I didn't say I was hoping for an acquittal! Generally, when a jury reaches a quick verdict it means an acquittal. While the case is terrible and I would never want to go through something like this, but why does this case get so much attention? Why this murder case and not another one? What does this say about our society? It is almost like we glorify criminals. It is kind of the same way we idolize mafia bosses - look at John Gotti. Are we that morbid as a culture? I just don't think that it deserves this much attention. If I was Lacey's parents, I would not like having to mourn in front the country. I would hope that the case would be quick so I could pick up the pieces of our lives as soon as possible. Almost two years now and Lacy's parents still do not have any closure.

It's a unique case partially because Laci was pregnant. This may or may not set a precedent regarding potential future fetal protection laws as well. Women's reproductive rights groups were up in arms when the charges made were Murder 1 for both Laci and Connor--but later faded because something that already exists in CA law regarding fetal protection. It is a unique legal precedent though, in my opinion.
As for sensational...that's just the press and there's not really much to be done about it. I didn't follow this case super-closely but I paid some attention when deliberations started.

I believe the answer in that question lies in the bottleneck of traffic that occurs from onlookers straining to see blood and guts at the scene of an accident.captainjoe wrote:While the case is terrible and I would never want to go through something like this, but why does this case get so much attention?
