Yes, I saw what started the fight....a Clemson player (possibly Bobby Williamson, but I don't know for sure--I've heard different names mentioned) punched Syvelle Newton while he was down. But what perpetuated the fight was when the USC players cleared the bench and ran out onto the field. They escalated the situation by running out there first. I saw it first hand.

The tone was set at the beginning of the game when USC started a fight after our players ran down the Hill to enter the field.

Again, I'm not saying Clemson is innocent--I have never said that. i just feel that you are ignoring that fact that TWO teams were involved here....you act as if USC is completely blameless, and that is just not the case.
I am not denying that South Carolina was equally to blame. However, after I saw the clips the game was rebroadcast and I watched it.

Sorry to get all up in arms about the whole thing. I just resent the fact that people sit here and say Clemson is "classless" and then try to connect the situation to Holtz's retirement when the two are not really related.

To make matters worse for me, I work at Clemson in the PR office, so I'm dealing with this ugly situation at work, too, as it has had a negative impact on our image, to say the least. So today hasn't been fun for me. So if I get a little overly defensive about it, that's why.

I generally try to avoid arguements here on BN, but you sorta hit a nerve here.

Yeah so take it easy Beerman, we don't want her going into early labor on account of you. You should know from experience that there is nothing like the wrath of an angry pregnant woman

Yes, there's the hungry pregnant woman, the vomiting pregnant woman, the crying-uncontrollably pregnant woman, the swollen and uncomfortable pregnant woman......just depends on the day you ask.

I haven't even hit six months yet, so I haven't yet come to the ANGRY stage yet. But my husband might tell you otherwise....

Really makes you want to procreate, huh?

Wasn't this thread originally about something else? Some guy named Holtz or something?

Yeah, watch it buddy. My boys have got my back! You don't want to mess with them. (See, I can have a sense of humor about this).

And yes, Beerman, I am eternally grateful that I am not going through this in the summer. I cannot imagine what it must be like to be pregnant when it is 98 degrees out with 99 percent humidity.

BTW--to get back on topic, press conference from both schools coming at 5 p.m., or so I've heard through the grapevine. Maybe we'll have some answers as to what is going to be done about this.

I think that Holtz should have stood by his team until the season was over.

Looks like that's a moot point now......both Clemson and USC announced that they will turn down bowl invitations as a result of the brawl.

The college game is losing a great coach, a great man, and a true class act. I'll definitely miss Lou.
