COLUMBIA -- There will be no bowl games for Clemson and the University of South Carolina this year.
Officials from both schools said they will not accept any postseason bowl bid if offered, as punishment for a 10-minute brawl between the two football teams in the final six minutes of Saturday's 29-7 Clemson victory.

Just my thoughts.......
True, Holtz is (was) a great coach, but all good things must come to an end. USC fans have reached the end of listening to empty promises. When Lou signed on, he had 'em thinking they were going strait to the top.

Six years later, the best they could do was 8-3. Not good enough for a program that has waited for over 100 years for a championship.
It's bittersweet. Holtz seemed like a great guy....I met him a couple of times. And he may have worked miracles at other schools, but I think he bit off a little more than he could chew with USC.
I for one welcome Spurrier with open arms, but I'm not going to get suckered into getting my hopes up for yet another year only to watch them go down in flames.

Holtz did take a losing team to a win in a bowl in just 2 years. BUT it takes more just a coach to win games. Holtz was on the side lines, not throwing and catching the passes.

I think Spurrier is too smart to make the promises Holtz did when he came to USC. Holtz really did have the fans believing he could take them to the top......and he did have some success with them, with the bowl wins.
It'll be interesting to see what Spurrier does in Columbia in the coming years. As a Tiger fan, I can't say I was happy to hear about him coming....we'll see what he's able to do. Will definitely make recruiting interesting this year.

Just watched the press conf. announcing Spurrier as the next USC coach. He seems pretty excited about getting started. I don't know much about him as a person.....never kept up with Fla. f.b. But he sure seems like a "likeable" guy.

Except for that one SC person who attacked the guy in the endzone, his players all backed off when Holtz stepped out onto the field.
Bowden didn't even have the b@ll$ to go out there.
So you saw the whole fight, or just the edited part they showed on the news?
I was there--saw the whole thing--and Clemson's players were off the field and back on the sidelines before the USC players were. I'm not trying to defend anyone's actions or say that Clemson is blameless....I'm as embarrassed as anyone about this.....just stating the facts and what I saw as a witness to this spectacle.

Yeah, yeah......I've seen that photo a thousand times. It's horrible, I admit, but for every photo of a Clemson player doing something like that, I can find one of a USC player doing something similar. I'm not excusing his behavior, but I am tired of people talking about this already. What's done is done, and the punishment has been handed down. Let's move on.

i agree it was a two sided affair....i just didn't see any SC player kicking any Clemson players unprotected head while they were on the ground

I'm just saying the USC players did their fair share, too. Neither you nor I was on the field during the fight, so neither of us can say exactly what each individual player was doing. This particular act just happened to be caught on camera. (Not that it makes it any better, but that guy was a senior this year, so he won't be back next year.....)
