This is not made up and i spent slot of time copying it from an article so here ya go. I thought it was purty interesting

-In military funerals, the 21 gun salute stands for the sum of numbers in the years 1776

-When folding the flag, the first fold symbolizes life; the second symbolizes our belief in eternal life; the third is for honor and remembrance of the veterans who gave their lives; the fourth represents our weaker nature as Americans trusting in God; the fifth is a tribute to our country; the sixth is for where our hearts lie; the seventh is a tribute to our Armed Forces; the eighth is a tribute to the one who entered the valley of the shadow of death so we might see the light of day; the ninth is a tribute to womanhood and mothers; the tenth is a tribute to THE father; the 11th represents King David, King Solomon and God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; the 12th represents the emblem of eternity and the 13th reminds us of our countries motto "In God We Trust"

-After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a crooked hat, reminding us of the soldiers who served under George Washington, the sailors and marines who served under Capt. John Paul Jones and their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces

Ahhh damn...I had never heard it before. So I figured hey that's pretty neat..oh well

An even more elaborate flag folding ceremony has since been devised for special occasions such as Memorial Day and Veterans Day, one which incorporates the association of particular symbolic meanings with each fold of the flag. These associations are "real" in the sense that they mean something to the people who participate in the ceremony, but they are not the reason why a flag is folded in the traditional thirteen-step manner
