Anyone mailing a gift this holiday season?

Just a FYI for any of you that are mailing a gift from one coast to another. I just got back from the post office, and they have a "new deal". They have 2 different size boxes, one is square and the other is oblong. They will mail the box for a flat rate of $7.70 to anywhere in the States, including Hawaii, no matter how much it weights. Good for those of us who don't have a UPS office close by.

It is a good deal....Priority Mail....but I do think you have to keep the weight under 50 pounds, IIRC.

Well, you also have to be able to have the item fit into these boxes. The boxes are about the size of a shoe box.
Good for me though, as my stepdad , loves FRUITCAKES :o
(fresh from Georgia, the Fruitcake capital of the world") and we all know how much those things weight! :D

I wouldn't trust the weasels to get it there by next Christmas tho.. CDs and cards fit nicely in the video boxes for priority mail for $3.85, and if you get the delivery confirmation, the chances of them losing it go down to about 1:100 rather than 1:10 for regular mail..

on the bright side.. when they are on the hook for that kind of cash, they tend to make sure the item makes it there...
