Like many less-hostile Cubs fans, I'm more irritated by Sox fans... I like the team, just not their fans!!

Actually, that was a trade.
Pads gave Sox Jay Payton (another CF almost equal straight up to Roberts), INF Ramon Vasquez, and about 3M cash.
Roberts grew up in SD's North county, so we're totally gambling on the "homegrown son does good" theory. We'll have to see...

The Yankees starting 5 now makes more money than most teams entire payroll, and some countries GNP!

Actually they traded then signed Dave Roberts. His rights were acquired in a trade from Boston but they still needed to sign him by the deadline or he would have become a free agent because he was arbitration eligible.

And MLB still thinks that's okay.

From IUP's article...
"The Yankees, with a bottomless pit of cash and, some would say, arrogance, must pay a $25 million luxury tax for last season - about $600,000 more than Tampa Bay's entire payroll."

Does anyone else think this sounds like Tino plays for the mafia?

"When you accept big money from Mr. Steinbrenner," first baseman Tino Martinez said, "you have to win."

As much as I despise the Yankees ( and I can't stress despise enough) George is playing by the rules that MLB set up :-?. Can't really blame him.

It will be just that much sweeter when we beat them again :D

So now it looks like the Yankees aren't going to try for Beltran,

http://msn.foxsports.com/story/3294948

which is very cool, but that means he's most likely to end up with the Mets or back with the Astros. :-?

Which doesn't leave the Cubs with a lot of options and that waste is still probably going to be in right field. :x
