Is it a peculiar writing style to write in first person for Taco Bob character (chapters) and then in third person for other chapters?

It's probably not unique, but it is pretty noticeable in this book?
Not unique in fiction. And necessary for this story because Taco Bob isn't the only "main" character. :)

I hope to finish it this week-end. :)

WOW. That's a huge book, side!!!

Hope you like KEY WEIRD. I'm really enjoying it. This will be one I hate to see end.

If I win the lottery, it could happen.

Fell asleep reading KEY WEIRD last night. It's funny, but I was tired.

Can't wait to hear what everyone thinks about it.
Did you wake up counting your fingers?

I finished. It was fun to read. There were so many mentions of historical things and familiar things I felt like I should know more about. I felt like I wanted to underline things and google for them.

How bout those hammerheads?!

Will someone remind me about the guy with the shower cap and kilt like skirt?? I went back but can't remember the reference to him.

:( :( :( :( I said that back on Jan 2nd..........I've still yet to finish Key Wierd or Bridge of Birds or Gifts from the Sea and still trying to get through ASPOL. For this girl who USED to read 3 or 4 books a week - it's depressing :(

Oh well - one of these days I'll be able to participate in this thread.

I'm in the same boat, but I've gotten lots of great ideas of stuff TO READ off this thread... Fluke was fun, one Dorsey was enough for now, and I must thank someone for introducing me to Sue Grafton.

:D :D I hate to admit it, but I haven't finished ASPOL either. I'm about 3/4 way through and then got distracted by lots of other books. I have read Bridge of Birds, Gift from the Sea (I had my bookstore order me the 50th anniversary copy since I had borrowed it from the library) and have ordered Key Weird. In the meantime, I have also read some trashy romance novels and a couple of kitty mysteries....

ETP The chat room here still seems to be operational. Maybe we can set up a time to discuss one of the earlier books? BOB or Gift that most of us have finished???

And I LOVE that Grafton has not sold out to Hollywood. (yet)

Great idea, Ms. 'Meg. Set a time and I'll try to be here.

Finished KEY WEIRD. Did some Lucid Dreaming this afternoon during my nap. It was easy. Been doing something like it for years, just had to "think" about it some, but it was worth it.

I need to re-read BLUE LONESOME. I think that's next.

Met a friend of my mom's Tuesday who was going to Florida, but didn't have Sanibel on their "to do" list. It's the first thing they're going to do now. The lady called my mom yesterday to tell her how much she loved GIFT FROM THE SEA and how she can't wait to see Sanibel.

See what good things can come from a good book?

OOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I LOVE Sue Grafton! There's another author I like a lot, who has a very strong female detective. All I can ever remember is that her (the author's) initials are K. K. (no, I'm NOT dreaming of Krispy Kremes for once...)

I will start Blue Lonesome as soon as I finish Bridge of Birds. I am really enjoying BOB, eventhough I just got into it. I'm just to the part about gensing.

I also googled Juan Ponce DeLeon, Lucid Dreaming, chacmools, Ten Thousand Islands, Calusa Indians and found some interesting things.

I still don't know why the book ended talking about the guy with the shower cap looking for a place to start a diner?? I did find earlier in the book where Taco Bob looked in his rear view mirror and saw the blue car run over an armadillo and the guy with the shower cap came out and got the roadkill. Then farther down the road was his station wagon with the sign for chicken burritos or something like that, but no one was there. I guess it was just part of the weirdness in Key West...Key Weird is a good book.

Counched: I'm so glad you're liking BoB. After all these years, it's still my favorite "story" of all time. I'm Master Li's Number one fan. I even tracked Hughart down and have begged him, like so many of his other fans, to write more. But, alas. . . there are only three Master Li/Number Ten Ox stories.

Hope you like BLUE LONESOME. I liked it because it's a story about something I might do, put in the same position as the main character.

It must be KK Beck. Saw one mystery named Death in a Deck Chair and another named Peril in the Palms.

I remembered! I never heard of KK Beck, actually. I'll have to check her out! I was thinking of Karen Kijewski. Her "detective heroine" is Kat Colorado. Good lunchtime reading.

Maybe Alison can recommend one she remembers.

Cold Smoked sounds good. Some of them are set in the 1920's.

LOL. I'll have to check out the other KK too.

Here is a web site for her.

I'm think we may not be talking about the same author. Here's a website of who I'm talking about:

It's been ages since I've read her....they all were pretty good.

Doesn't matter much to me. They both sound good. Someone make a choice and I'll order YET AGAIN from amazon.com via buffettnews.com. :o
