What live show should every Parrothead have?

Post by Clock Doc »

Long time Parrothead here and my first time to post on this board. I am currently trying to start a Jimmy collection and would love to hear your opinions of what are some of the better shows, classic shows, etc, that i should look for out there in cyberland. I dont really follow Jimmy like some of you so I dont know which shows are considered to be the better ones. I do know that Capt. Morgan has a FTP site to get shows and i was wondering if there is anywere else i could go? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I know this isn't quite what you're looking for, but the best shows (to me) are the ones I go to. They have the most "sentimental" value. Also, keep an ear out on RadioMargaritaville. They'll broadcast "non-traditional" concerts like at Jazzfest, or Jimmy playing solo for charity benefits. Those are usually VERY good.

Welcome aboard!

It depends on your preference in Buffett music. There are some shows out there from the 70s and 80s, the sound might not be great, but the set lists are fantastic (IMHO). You can also get a lot of the more recent tours via Radio Margaritaville. Better sound, but very similar setlists. Finally, there are the unique shows...the Long Island Montesori School benefit shows, Peete's birthday, etc. They are accoustic and have some real gems thrown in there.

One you might want to be on the lookout for is the Nov. 2001 NYC benefit show from MSG. It turned into a 9/11 benefit show and the energy there was unbelievable.

I hope that helps.

I agree. I'm also quite fond of the "Record Plant" recordings from 1974

Of the one's in stores, has to be "You Had To Be There". Great, great album.

Tough call on the bootlegs. I prefer the ones I was at too. And so for that reason, I'll second the nomination for Greensboro 2002.

I was at that show. It was awesome.

To start you need to begin with Exit Inn '74. GREAT show and he explains how he came up with some of the songs. Good sound too.

The Millenium Concert is a nice one to have.
It was a pleasure and a hell of an evening
Truly was our night to win
But the authorities insist on my leaving
Take care my American friend
