I'm planning our annual surfing trip to Cape Hatteras, OBX during Easter break. At that time Bluefin Tuna are usually running. There was a major run last year when I was there. I've always wanted to try this. How difficult is it to bring one of these in? The most I've done is bluefish and the like over here in NJ.
Also, what are the rules about keeping your catch. Different boats say different things about this but it doesn't seem really clear. If you've done this before, can you recommend a boat? I may not have a choice since we don't have a group of 6 we may have to be fill ins on somebody elses charter.

I haven't fished the gulf but fished Tuna many times down in Baja and the Cape. Bluefin is one of the toughest fighting fish. If you ever faught a Yellowfin it's at least 5x the fight. I was in an Albacore bite one year so I was using some pretty light gear and hooked on about a 80lb Blue that kicked my butt. It wouldnt of been SO bad but I was using 35lb test. Now I'm all amped to go catch some Tuna unfortunatley were just Rockcod'n these days. At least it's fishin'!
