Damn - I'd rather see Pat Green
I agree . . . this is the release im most looking forward to. It's really nice to see that Kenny got into the whole island thing, and not in a very tacky way . . . because buffett's island stuff has never been tacky, and from what i've heard of this album its not tacky at all like "Some Beach" or "How'd I Wind Up In Jamaica" or "Stays In Mexico" or even "5'oclock Somewhere"Ilph wrote:I am really looking forward to this new album coming out.
WOW. This is really something, its straight from the heart and you can tell. I would gladly accept Kenny Chesney as predecessor to Jimmy Buffett.msu#1 wrote:Be As You Are

I have always been drawn to the ocean…
Even as a little kid, going to Myrtle Beach with my family, there was just something about the pull of the sea that drew me out of bed, kept me in the water long past dinner - and made a kid from the Smokey Mountains feel strangely settled and at home.
Maybe somebody way back in my family tree had a love affair with the tropics - somebody who felt their heart beat a little deeper when they were sitting on the beach, under the stars and a full moon with a gentle wind in their face, just staring into the horizon. Or maybe they were kicked back in a little bar, listening to music drifting through the warm air, telling stories with whomever else might be setting there, nowhere to be, nothing to prove, just the night and the people enjoying the quiet and the laughter in that moment.
The Old Man and The Sea is one of my favorite books. That tug he felt always felt right to me - even before I found the blue water of the Caribbean. Because there's something about the islands that holds you, that soothes you, that melts the stress, ambition and expectations in ways you can't explain.
I've spent the vast majority of the past several years in the islands. When I wasn't on the road, I was on my boat - drifting to nowhere, just feeling the waves and writing songs about the freedom I found there. It's a lifestyle, this not needing to be anywhere but there… and it's really become the way I walk through the world no matter where I am.
Down there, everything moves to its own time. A single moment can last for hours, days can just stand still- or be over just like that. It makes no sense, you think nothing about it. It's just… easy.
It's a place where old weathered flags move slowly with the wind, hanging from the different bar ceilings - each with a different story and personality from years past. Where you can walk up to a bar from a beach you've just sailed into with wet money in your pocket, order something and start a tab by the name of your boat.
Where no matter what your truth is, who people think you are, where you're from or what you do, you can strip down to your basic self. You can lose yourself, find yourself, reinvent yourself, simply be as you are.
A friend of mine in the Virgin Islands once told me, "If you live here, you either become a bartender, a boatie or a bum…" I've become friends with people who fit each of those, and so many more. These are really amazing characters, unique individuals with big hearts and deep souls - who'll welcome you in and make you feel like you're home.
Over countless days over several years, that's just what they've done for me. Watching the sun move across the sky, anchored down on some remote island, hanging out in a funky little bar where the rum drinks flow, burgers get eaten and the counters are littered with locals, tourists and the folks caught somewhere between the two.
I've been blessed, absolutely. And some of the greatest treasure I've found are the people across the jewels that're the Caribbean islands. Many of them have not only inspired these songs, but literally been the songs - and they've shown me a way to live, love, laugh, breathe, which is where these songs have come from. I can tell you: it's a good way to be.
So this album goes out to anyone who lives their life in flip-flops or who wish that they could. To all those people who've touched my heart with their carefree sense of life, French kissing the moment and living life as it comes - and to anyone who's ever signed the guest book on my boat. If you have, then I know you've shared an important part of my life. And to the fans, whether you know it or not, you've signed my heart, and that is the reason I wanted to share this part of my life with you…
Be As You Are, it's all that you need to get by.
God Bless

Last year Kenny played Chicago two weeks after Jimmy... I was in the 17th row for that one.Tiki Bar wrote:Thanks MSU!!
As for the schedule - I'm guessing most of those must be college towns, since the IL dates aren't in Chicago.
Anyone know off hand where Moline is? I better make myself a bigger concert budget!
I would'nt call them tacky. I for one love the fun island anthems.DsilCaribe wrote:I agree . . . this is the release im most looking forward to. yeah i love those too (especially 5'oclock and Some Beach), but you gotta admit they're nothing like the contemplative and reflective songs like OPH, Tin Cup Chalice, etc. and i hear Kennys new album will be in that contemplative manner.sonofabeach wrote:I would'nt call them tacky. "Stays in Mexico" is basically the same message as "The Weather is here",
"Who's the blonde Stranger","No plane on Sunday" and if that's tacky, give me tacky!!!!![]()
I can't wait for this album!
The more tropical music the better!!!
Yeah it does sound like a good blend of both, which hopefully will make this album one of the best of the year!sonofabeach wrote:Dsil-
True indeed.
I've heard some song samples on his ite and there are also some fun stereotypical island songs too.
Sounds like a good blend of both.
Minus the boat this time - Dallas is the day after Memorial Day. I'd rather spend that time on the water than hauling out for a concert. Maybe I'll just bring a cooler and some beer.ph4ever wrote:YO FOURPLAY, ANGELBEECH, RHUMCHUM.....................are we ready???
