Black Crowes Reunite For New York Shows
After months of speculation, Chris and Rich Robinson are reforming the Black Crowes for a five-night stand at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom. The March 22-23, 25-27 shows, the Crowes' first since Oct. 31, 2001, are the only ones booked at this stage of the reunion, according to group manager Pete Angelus.
"Regardless of the speculation, we are going to see how these shows at the Hammerstein evolve before giving any further consideration to additional shows," he says. Tickets will be available Jan. 25 via a presale on the band's official Web site and Feb. 5 via Ticketmaster.
The Robinsons have yet to announce which, if any, musicians will back them at the shows, which will feature support from the John Butler Trio (March 22), the Bees (March 23), the Soundtrack Of Our Lives (March 25), North Mississippi Allstars (March 26) and Ben Kweller (March 27).
Since the Crowes went on hiatus in early 2002, Chris has released two solo albums, while Rich issued his first last fall.
"I'd love to do it," Rich told Billboard.com in September about a possible reunion. "Chris and I are brothers and I love him. It would definitely be a cool, comfortable thing to do, but I'm proud of [the solo album] and I am glad I got to do it. Still, there's something familiar about [the Crowes]. I love those songs and the work we did together."

Don't get me wrong, I really like the Black Crowes. I am truly amazed that Chris Robinson is still alive. The last time I saw him on TV was at least 10 years ago, and I didn't think he'd make it another year. What is up with him and Keith Richards?
It was a pleasure and a hell of an evening
Truly was our night to win
But the authorities insist on my leaving
Take care my American friend

Black Crowes Fly Again
Robinson brothers reunite for New York City shows
Chris and Rich Robinson will reform the Black Crowes to play five shows at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom, from March 22nd through the 27th. The announcement comes after months of reunion speculation.
Since announcing a hiatus in early 2002, brothers Chris (vocals) and Rich (guitar) launched solo careers. In 2003, Rich formed Hookah Brown -- which included Moke singer John Hogg, drummer Bill Dobrow and bassist Fionn O'Lochlainn -- and spoke to Rolling Stone about his intentions for the band. "I don't want to try and remake the Black Crowes," said Rich. "I want to take what I learned and try it in a different context."
Just months later, however, Hookah Brown dissolved due to financial disagreements. After the band's separation, Rich released his solo debut, Paper, in 2004 on his own Keyhole label. "I always tried to write songs for John's voice and Chris' voice," Rich told Rolling Stone last April. "This time I got to try to write for my own."
Chris also wasted little time embarking on a solo career. In 2002, he released his debut New Earth Mud, following up with This Magnificent Distance last year.
The Black Crowes' 1990 debut, Shake Your Moneymaker, went multi-platinum, with Top Forty singles "Hard to Handle" and "She Talks to Angels." Their follow-up, 1992's The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, debuted at Number One on the charts, and the supporting nationwide tour was a sellout. They went on to release four more studio albums, to less acclaim.
The March concerts, billed as All Join Hands, will be the band's first since October of 2001. Opening acts for the reunion shows include the John Butler Trio, the Soundtrack of Our Lives and Ben Kweller.

Black Crowes To Land At Bonnaroo, Jazz Fest
The reunited Black Crowes have been added to the bill for the Bonnaroo festival (June 11 in Manchester, Tenn.) and New Orleans' annual Jazz and Heritage festival (April 22). In addition, the group has added two additional shows, March 29-30, to its previously announced five-night run at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom.
Those gigs sold out within minutes of going on sale to the general public over the weekend. Tickets for the newly added dates, which will feature support by North Mississippi Allstars, will be available via an Internet pre-sale starting Thursday (Feb. 10) and to the general public on Saturday.
According to the band's official Web site, the majority of the tickets for the March 29-30 shows will be up for grabs during the Internet presale.
It is still unknown which musicians will be joining principal Crowes members Chris and Rich Robinson at the shows, which will be the band's first since later October 2001.

That would be nice, or at least a better venue in Raleigh (which is closer for me). The Disco Rodeo is one of the most horrible sounding venues around but as far as capacity, it's pretty much the only choice in the Raleigh area. I was just down at the HOB in Myrtle for Wilco and while the show was great, it was packed to the point of uncomfortable. Robert Plant is coming there this Spring too but I'm probably going to pass on seeing him because I'm sure it'll be sold out (like the Crowes) and impossible to move.CaribbnSoul wrote:Thanks for the update Jah....that made my day! I've never gotten the chance to see Plant...I might try to make that trip. What material does he play live? Also...wouldn't it have been great if Page teamed up w/ the Crowes again for this tour?Jahfin wrote:That would be nice, or at least a better venue in Raleigh (which is closer for me). I haven't seen Plant live since the Now and Zen tour. Back then he focused mainly on his solo material and was beginning to work in a Zep tune or two. A boot I heard from his last tour for Dreamland had a few more Zep songs but obviously focused on the newer tunes from Dreamland which is mainly covers (Hey Joe, Darkness, Darkness, Another Cup of Coffee, etc.). As far as Page joining the Crowes, I think that would be wonderful but Chris Robinson has less than kind things to say about their pairing in the years since they toured together (imagine that). Last I heard, Page was working on an all-star type album where he would play a different guitar on every track. It remains to be seen if and when that will ever come out.CaribbnSoul wrote:I've never gotten the chance to see Plant...I might try to make that trip. What material does he play live?
