Kenny Chesney new album buyers ONLY (page 7, halfway down)

KENNY CHESNEY
Album Title: Be As You Are: Songs From an Old Blue Chair
Producer(s): Buddy Cannon, Kenny Chesney
Genre: COUNTRY
Label/Catalog Number: BNA 61530
Release Date: Jan. 25
Source: Billboard Magazine
Originally Reviewed: January 22, 2005

Kenny Chesney has copped Jimmy Buffett licks here and there for quite a while to great success. Here, though, he admirably steps back from the million-dollar mainstream country formula to turn out an often quiet, introspective collection of self-penned tunes that still owe much to Buffett. The titles tell it all: "Island Boy," "Guitars and Tiki Bars," "Sherry's Living in Paradise." It's still an endearing set, from the gentle "Old Blue Chair" to the wistful "Somewhere in the Sun." "Something Sexy About the Rain" is an atmospheric torch song, while the devil-may-care "French Kissing Life" is delivered with a confident, laid-back flair. It goes without saying that the record is flawlessly produced, and after a remarkable decade of hits, Chesney has earned the right to make a Buffett record if he wants to.—RW

There's probably not a bigger KC fan on this board than me, saying that I thought this was gonna be a good not great cd from the short clips. However after listening to the songs in whole, Ive changed my mine, it is a great cd.

I agree the album is good and I do like it. I am a fan of Kenny Chesney and think this "beach image" fits him well. I don't think this is his "most personal album" as he describes it...but it's still a good one. I guess I'm a little torn that he tries to sell it as his "soul" and way of life...he does it well..but he's a young guy from eastern TN ...what does he REALLY know about sailing? or "...being a pirate..." He's just selling us a mental vacation...something Buffett has been doing for us since before Kenny Chesney was even thought of.

I think the biggest suprise from Kenny Chensey is about to come this year when he adds Pat Green to his tour line up for the "second leg." For those think like more upbeat country and songs like "WDWGD" ...hold on to your alcoholic beverages...it's going to be a WILD summer on the Chesney tour!

Kenny is 37. He's older than buffett was when he wrote everything previous to and including One Particular Harbour in 1983 (that means ALL of buffett's work in the 70s, plus coconut telegraph, somewhere over china, and OPH), so i dont think your point about him not knowing about "sailing" or "being a pirate" is a very valid one. Afterall, Jimmy was just a young guy from southern mississippi. . ..

And doesn't Kenny live on an island most of the time?

Sounds great so far! I love Guitars & Tiki Bars and well, all of them.
Although I wish that there were more a couple of more upbeat songs to balance it out. BUT if I gotta hear a few ballads I'll take ones about island life anyday.
I think I'm gonna add
"How Forever Feels","When the Sun Goes Down", "No Shoes No Shirt No Problems", "Outta Here", "Come Monday", "Marina Del Rey", "On the Coast of somewhere beautiful", "License to Chill", and "Live Those Songs" for the ultimate KC tropical cd.

I think it's cool that we've got to witness his progression into this music.
I remember when I first saw "How Forever Feels" where he mentions Buffett and had the awesome video shot in the Caribbean.
Then he released "No Shoes" and I thought "maybe just maybe".
And he was headed down this road well before "It's Five O Clock Somewhere" was a major hit. I'm sure there will be some country and Buffett fans that don't like it just because but oh well

I've tried to listen to it, but every time I click on the link to listen, I get a blank window. I have turned off my popup blocker, my firewalls, what else can I do? I have had this problem in the past with the CMT site. Any suggestions?

I don't get your point? Are you saying that KC's work is as good as Buffetts early stuff? What is KC"s AIA? What has KC done that will be considered a classic 15 years from now?

CMT Player is really finicky. I used to have that problem. I reinstalled Windows Media Player and now it seems to work fine.

Is the official release date next Tuesday, the 25th?

He released a special edition of When the Sun Goes Down through target, with the bonus CD. Any buzz if he will do anything like that again?

Yes, the release date is the 25th, keep you eye on the flyers in the paper this weekend and look for special editions. I haven't heard anything yet on special editions.

I am half way through the songs and really enjoying it so far.
