I can't say this makes me happy ....... I rather enjoy being able to go to the parking lot party several hours ahead and visit with other parrotheads. I'd like to know what there may be in the works to sustitute for this. Having never been to Wrigley Field, can anyone say if there is a parking lot(s) to be partying in??
Maybe I just need to omit this show from my choices this year

Ditto to what semi-truth said. Tinley Park is a great venue. I wish he would do one at Wrigley and one at Tinley at least. Gosh, Alpine Valley is really rather close to Wrigley Field, too. We travel all the way up from southern Illinois for concerts. So not to have a tailgate party and a hotel that is reasonably priced at which to stay (not to mention the crowds in Chicago) sure is a deterrent. Besides how can we reconcile "breaking" the curse on the Cubs when we are Cardinal fans??

The funny thing is, I've already gotten 2 phone calls this morning from non-PH friends saying "you probably already know this, but I heard on the radio it's ophicial that Buffett is playing Wrigley Labor Day weekend"!
It's good to be thought of!

The last 2 years were late August, but 2002 was mid June... works for me!semitruths wrote:Tiki Bar wrote:I'll happily replace Tinley with Wrigley this year! Or maybe, we'll even get both!
We won't get both unless he adds Tinley during a different part of the year. JB normally plays Tinley at the end of August (near my son's b-day).

My memory doesn't go back that for (though my ticket stubs do) ...

No there is no parking lot in the immediate area around Wrigley. They do utilize a near by college parking lot (Devry) and offer a shuttle to Wrigley for night games, don't know if they would use that for the concert. The numerous bars that surround Wrigley are packed and crazy for Cubs games, before a Buffett concert will be quite a site.
Buffett being a huge Cubs fan and very nostalgic would be the reasons he is playing Wrigley and not Comisky.
Hopefully Cubs season ticket holders get a shot at buying tickets first.... fingers crossed.
Isn't being a Cardinal fan a conflict of interest with Buffett philosophy since he is a lifelong Cub fan and the Cardinals are their arch rivals.
I'm sure there wasn't a large contingent of Yankee fans at Fenway last year.

Indeed....count on probably half the tickets the tickets going through the Cubs self-owned ticket broker. For those of you who don't realize it, here's an article from the Chicago Sun Times from when they opened this in 2002.....
If you think brokers have been a problem at other venues.....just wait til you see how bad it will be here!
Cubs open own ticket brokerage
June 20, 2002
BY ANNIE SWEENEY STAFF REPORTER
In an unusual move that contradicts a longtime stance against ticket scalping, the Cubs have set aside tickets they will sell through a newly formed subsidiary on the so-called secondary market.
Cubs executive vice president for business operations Mark McGuire would prefer not to use the word "scalp,'' but the tickets are being sold at market rate, typically above their face value.
The team is doing this for the same reason it recently started allowing season-ticket holders to return tickets they don't plan to use for resale at a profit through the team Web site: Ticket brokers, scalpers and the secondary market aren't going anywhere soon.
"The secondary market is going to continue whether we are in it or not,'' McGuire said. "We are going to be as creative as we can in developing our business.''
But McGuire also acknowledged the money-making opportunity.
"I would say that as a business, if we are successful in finding new revenue streams, the average fan benefits because there is less pressure to raise the ticket price,'' he said.
The tickets are sold through a subsidiary business called Wrigley Field Premium Ticket Services at 3717 N. Clark, just down the street from the ballpark. It is a licensed ticket broker where tickets are available on the resale market. On Tuesday, field box tickets for the St.Louis Cardinals games this weekend were going for $85 to $110. According to the team Web site, general field box prices range from $30 to $32.
McGuire said the Cubs sold about 200 tickets for each game to Wrigley Field Premium Ticket Services. He said the tickets were pulled from a pool of VIP tickets and not from the regular cache available to fans.
McGuire said the bold move--he does not think any other club is doing this--was made after the organization realized there is a market of Cubs fans who will not buy tickets months in advance for the games they want to see. Rather, they will wait until two weeks before the game, search for tickets and pay the big money for them, McGuire said.
But instead of going to any other broker, including the five or six set up around Wrigley Field, the Cubs want you to come to them.
McGuire said fans benefit from knowing the tickets they buy through the Cubs' subsidiary are the real thing.
Kurt Soderholm of Front Row Ticket Service said the Cubs' entry into the secondary market creates an uneven playing field for other brokers because they control the product--the tickets that everybody wants.
"You are the people who control the product, and now you're playing both sides of the fence,'' Soderholm said.
If you think brokers have been a problem at other venues.....just wait til you see how bad it will be here!

Bubba at Wrigley field
I hope we can band together and pray to the concert Gods that he does both Tinley and the field. I have never been to Wrigley, but I suppose I would try it. However I always sit in the lower pavillion, and seems like Wrigley wouldn't have such a great view...part of the thrill is being in close proximity to the Chief Parrothead himself, and it would be harder to get there at Wrigley...I don't know how they set concerts up in a venue like that though.
Wrinkles only go where smiles have been.
What infinite wisdom...Thank you Jimmy!!!

Unlike a pavillion...the Lawn seats are better at a Stadium show!Phinsup2! wrote:I hope we can band together and pray to the concert Gods that he does both Tinley and the field. Re: Bubba at Wrigley field
agreed-I had seats that would be great for a baseball game for the Springsteen concert at US Cellular, but the set-up put us so far away from everything it was weird. Usually the performer is in the outfield, and the entire infield has to be blocked so it does not get trampled by the fans, so the seats in the stands are a long way away from the perfomer.CaptainP wrote:Unlike a pavillion...the Lawn seats are better at a Stadium show!Phinsup2! wrote:I hope we can band together and pray to the concert Gods that he does both Tinley and the field.
