Piece of Work (less Toby Keith)

Post by dchspoptart »

This just in from the BuffettMP3 yahoo group:
Jimmy's version of "Piece of Work" without Toby Keith is available on
AOL through the below link, click on Country & Folk, then Buffett,
Jimmy. This will be the next single out on radio from License to Chill.

http://music.channel.aol.com/archive/main.adp
I have an mp3 of it that I can send out to those that can't access the page.

To me, this song sounds weird... you can hear another vocalist under Jimmy when he's doing Toby's part. Maybe its just me...
Also, I think it'd be cool to have Jimmy and Will do it together.

I just listened to it. . . . its different, good, but still i dont think its the best possible song to release as a single. "Coastal Confessions" would have been my choice!

Thanks again poptart!

The background vocals are different - I was unsuccessfully trying to figure out if they were anyone we knew.

I think its great to release it as a single, however, I woulda kept it with Toby or maybe a live version with Mac... that'd be cool.

With Will Kimbrough contributing to the album, any chance it might be his vocals? After hearing Will's original version I would have much preferred a duet with him and Buffett than Toby.

I don't know what Will's vocals really sound like, though it would be cool for him and Jimmy to do it together, especially if he was credited for it ("Jimmy Buffett and Will Kimbrough - Piece of Work" and not just "Jimmy Buffett - Piece of Work", for example.)

Just my .02!

i heard Will do it in the Coastal Confessions concert and no offense to those that like him but personally i found his voice pretty disgusting but his guitar playing plesant and talented. That sounds more like Mac in the background than Will.

I will email Will and ask him. I'll post his reply whenever he gets back to me.

Wills voice disgusting? I've never heard that before. HAve you heard any of his solo work? Have you heard any of his work at all? Allow me to send you some before you make that judgement. You would go nuts if anyone spoke that way about your boys Chesney or Urban.

i heard him sing "Peice of Work" with Jimmy solo on the Coastal Confessions concert, and personally i didn't really like his voice. I thought that maybe he had one bad night or something, so i listened to a clip of "Peice of Work" from his CD "Home Away" and i found his voice to be just as bad as it was live. I guess my opinion of his voice could always change if i heard more of his songs, but i really have no interest in looking into his work, i'm really not gonna pay money to hear something i don't really like. . . (and therein lays a whole other conversation about how if radio played more people and bigger diversity you could hear those people without paying money to hear them, and then if you like them you could buy their albums) He kinda made a bad impression on from what i heard, but i still think he's an excellent guitarist. It's just my opinion, which should mean absolutley nothing to you. You really shouldn't care what i think of him. Afterall, you don't even know me.

I've noticed a lot of people here take music so seriously. It's just music. You either like it or you don't. It either sounds good or it doesn't. Music for me is just for entertainment and relaxation, and sometimes for escapism, but thats all. It's just music, so if i don't like what you like don't try to make me like it or be mad at me for not liking what you like. I know i've probably fallen victim to this once or twice, but i rarely try to get people to listen to what i listen to if i know they won't like it. For instance, i posted that Kenny Chesney thread for people who like Kenny, and i didn't really have people who i know aren't gonna like it in mind when i posted it here.

btw, i wouldn't take offense if you said that one of my favorites had a bad voice because that would be your opinion. But, if you said Keith Urban was a bad guitarist, then I'd think you're crazy!!!! but i wouldn't take offense. . .. honestly i could care less what others think of what i listen to, and i don't care about what others here listen to either . . .everyone likes different things, and thats cool.
