Going to Fort Lauderdale, what are JB indoor shows like?

Post by MikeJW »

I've been to about ten outdoor shows, but this will be my first arena show. What is the atmosphere like? Is it anything like an outdoor show? How is the tailgating in Lauderdale?

Thanks....

Indoor shows can actually be better. Having lived in Denver for the last few years, the Pepsi Center is much more fun than Fiddler's Green outdoors. Last time I saw JB in Florida was the Coral Sky Amphitheater in West Palm. It was excellent and I wonder why they are moving inside for a South FL gig.

If you can get tickets behind the stage, it serves as the lawn. I had 5th row directly behind the stage a few tours ago. During his acoustic visit to the back, I could have hit him with my beads. Great way to see a show.

When we saw Jimmy in Otown last Nov we sat behind the stage. He refered to it as the indoor lawn. The part that made it cool was near the back of the stage he had a little lifted type stage. So he would come back and sing to those of us sitting in the "indoor lawn". Best lawn seats ever!

well here's the deal...there's a lot of places that have good sound and a lot that don't...Amphitheatres are built for sound...while arenas are well...just usually not..but there is a lot of indooer venues that sound really good. I went to the FLL show last year and im sorry to say that the Office Depot Center has horrible acoustics...im talkin' muffled words acoustics and our seats were front row bottom tier right in the dead center...should have been awesome sound..nope. We had a horrible time trying to hear what he said in between songs.
As for others around FL...Orlando has good sound..as well as Tampa..and so does Jax..I don't know..he needs to head back outside down south
All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz & i'm fine

go to tampa

The acoustics are horrible if you are anywhere but on the floor, IMO. Sorry for these last minute postings about this but I've been out of the country and just found out about the shows this morning.

I'm probably buying tickets from Tampa and driving cross state as he's playing an outdoor venue there. Don't know why he gave up on Coral Sky, but it's been the ODC for the last 2 years and I haven't gone.

I Saw Jimmy at the Fleet Center (the New Boston Garden) in I think it was February during the Carnival tour. It was a great show. The Fleet Ctr. had been recently built and it was definately built for acoustics it sounded great.

Tailgating?

Post by baz »

Hey folks...

I happen to be in FL for the Office Depot Center show and grabbed a couple tix. Is there tailgating allowed there or is it just parking garages etc.... and if that's the case, are there fun places to hang out before? Any help is appreciated....

Thanks!

tailgating

Post by EZ »

Tailgating at the ODC isn't your typical event. It's a big parking lot where you can do some minor tailgating - but nothing too crazy. There is a mall across the street with some restuarants/bars that usual have Buffett-related pre-parties that day.

He has been indoors in south Fla since he was rained out a bunch of years ago...it sucks inside...you can;t hear and security is everydamnedwhere..no finding "empty" better seats, no umm smoking, bitchy people who think you should sit through an entire concert...

I heard that there were some issues at West Palm about someone getting killed by a car at his last show there and that was why he has not been back since.
Maybe just a rumor but I do believe I remember reading an online article about the accident, just not sure if that's the reason

I didn't hear that but I was at the last show they had there and they got rained offstage...so that sucked. After that every year has been indoors. Oh well, I go to see him where ever he is, and its always a good time no matter what.

I am so glad that he is outside in Tampa because the St. Pete Times Forum (Formerly known as the Ice Palace) had horrible accousitics, it was built for hockey, not concerts. I went to the show last year in Ft. Lauderdale, much better sound sytem, and we were up there. We could hear what he was saying.

Enjoy the concert season, Fins Up!

I prefer the outdoor shows generally but have seen both good and bad indoors. My last indoor experience was AA Arena in Miami and the sound was so bad I swore I would never go to an indoor show again. Then again, if he ever saw fit to play an indoor arena in Louisiana again (Sanger Theatre peotry reading doesn't count) I'm sure I'd go. Indoor JB is better than no JB at all.
