I am going to David Allen Coe tonight at the NORVA in Norfolk, Virginia........... it is going to be great I love David Allen Coe he is the $hit........
he has good sound and great songs.............it will be fun.......plus I will be really drunk
.........and he hates JIMMY BUFFETT with a passion....just like I do
Have fun, DAC usually puts on a great show. For your sake, I hope he stays sober enough to remember the words to his songs. What type of venue is the NORVA? Everytime I've seen DAC has been in a small bar setting, I think it suits his style well.

The NORVA is a indoor stand up concert hall (meaning there are no seats).
There is a Balcony, with no seats, with three sides surrounding the stage.
It can hold 1500-1600 people. www.thenorva.com

I'm a fan of a great deal of David Allan Coe's music, particularly the early stuff but don't consider myself a racist redneck. I can understand why you feel that way though. He certainly sends an ambigious message by saying he regrets the openly racist records he's made in the past but at the same has them for sale on his web site (albeit with a disclaimer stating the previous). Which makes me wonder, is it possible to still be a fan of an artist even though he has made such hateful records in the past? I think so because I feel I'll always be a fan of those early records and quite a bit of his latter day stuff. I'm not sure I'll ever go see DAC in concert again but that has more to do with the spotty nature of most his appearances (from what I've read anyway) than it has to do with his regrettable past and the possible audience he may attract.
My friends brother and his friends love DOA and went to a show, they were singing racist s*** for days, and they said the crowd was the most dirtball concert they'd ever been to. Of course it was at a bar in Taylor -tucky, Michigan. I told them if they used if they said Nigger one more time and meant it, not just in a dumb song, I was gonna punch them, they shut up

From what I understand, in keeping with disowning the racist music he's made in the past he no longer performs those songs in concert. So, I'm gathering from your friends' experience that's no longer the case?

I hate you, but I'm still a big fan of your idiotic ramblings! So, even though it's not quite the same thing, I'd say the answer to your question is a resounding YES!

The most recent show I have been to was last summer. There was a large sign on the merchandise table that read something like "While David welcomes requests, he WILL NOT play any songs from the x-rated albums. NO EXCEPTIONS. DO NOT ASK!"
When somebody dissed Kenny Chesney in a thread he started,

With tunes like "Would You Lay With Me (In A Field Of Stone)", "Jody Like A Melody", "The Ride", and, speaking of interpreating other people's material and making it your own, "You Never Even Called Me By My Name", I think DAC has cut what arguably have to be some of the best country sides ever. Too bad the memory of these have to be marred by his racial and sexist views.
