Speaking of Cake

I don't recall discussion of the group Cake.
I didn't realize their name, but when I saw their DirecTV Freeview, I knew quite a few songs.
Any opinions of them? Do you like a girl with a short skirt and a looooooong jacket?

Could be wrong, but this may be one of their more popular songs...
"Short Skirt / Long Jacket"
I want a girl with a mind like a diamond
I want a girl who knows what's best
I want a girl with shoes that cut
And eyes that burn like cigarettes
I want a girl with the right allocations
Who's fast and thorough
And sharp as a tack
She's playing with her jewelry
She's putting up her hair
She's touring the facility
And picking up slack
I want a girl with a short skirt and a lonnnng jacket......
I want a girl who gets up early
I want a girl who stays up late
I want a girl with uninterrupted prosperity
Who used a machette to cut through red tape
With fingernails that shine like justice
And a voice that is dark like tinted glass
She is fast and thorough
And sharp as a tack
She's touring the facility
And picking up slack
I want a girl with a short skirt and a lonnnnng.... lonnng jacket
I want a girl with a smooth liquidation
I want a girl with good dividends
And at the city bank we will meet accidentally
We'll start to talk when she borrows my pen
She wants a car with a cupholder arm rest
She wants a car that will get her there
She's changing her name from Kitty to Karen
She's trading her MG for a white Chrysler La Baron
I want a girl with a short skirt and a lonnnnggggggggg jacket

I'm a Cake fan. Their music is different--it's not for everyone. Sometimes it can be downright strange, but that's what I like about it. They've had success with a few other songs, such as "Never There," "The Distance," and "How Do You Afford Your Rock N Roll Lifestyle?"
I was going to see them in Atlanta a few years ago, but my stupid appendix decided it needed to be removed that weekend, so I couldn't go.
You can check out the web site
http://www.cakemusic.com for more on them.

Never heard the song you're quoting but I have heard a couple of others, most notably "I'm Going The Distance". The way that guy talk/sings has always gotten on my nerves but they
are different.

I agree! Never There is another one of the songs I know. The DirecTV Freeview was quite enjoyable though - they showed segments where they gave a walkman of their music to people on the street to listen to and comment on. A lot of them got into it and bopped around, but a few thought it sucked.
By the way, I hear the Cake tunes on the same station that plays the DBT tunes.

Sorry Tiki... From now on, I'll try and be as dry and completely dull as possible.. I know some people prefer that...

They can't be as good as Kenny Chesney??????????
I've heard of them and I saw the Directv freeview. I really have no opinion. I don't own any Cake stuff.

Well, that's
your opinion!
I like their funky sound, but don't have any Cake stuff either. (Not entirely true - I do have some cake mixes at home.

)
I just figured they're different, and the other cake thread made me think of them, so I thought I'd throw it out there.

I like Cake. Don't own any of their stuff, but they do an awesome cover of the song "Perhaps".
Neat, odd sort of band.

They also cover Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" though I can't say there's really anything awesome about it. I much prefer R.E.M.'s drunken karaoke version of it that they released on a fanclub b-side a few years ago.

OMG. I totally forgot about that. It's a pretty corny cover song. Definitely not a fave, but funny to listen to once or twice.
