License to Chill - Jimmy solo

Post by Buffettluvin »

I am imagining this or is there a version of the song license to chill minus Kenny Chesney floating out there somewhere? Not that the song is bad as is, but I like POW solo and would like more solo songs from LTC.
Tryin to act like I got something planned......

Check out the concert trading threads. All (Ok, most) of the concerts this summer had LTC songs without the country artists.

Everybody who starred in these songs recorded them in their entirety, and then they were mixed into their appropriate places on the CD... I wouldn't be surprised if something like this turned up because it did for Piece of Work (much better w/out Toby)

i'm confused.. i've heard POW about 3 teams on the radio here, and each time it was the version w/ Toby
I hope that all the greedy bastards in the world
Come back as lobsters.
You know that life at the bottom of the food chain
Suits them well.
I think that all of the evil people of the world
Come back as horseflies,
They want one last bite before they're sent to hell.

It's kind of a long story, but the short lesson in Music Row 101 is that Toby is on the album, but RCA didn't have the "single" rights to Toby on that song. So, Jimmy went back in, re-recorded the song solo, and it was sent to country radio as a single that you can't buy in stores.

However, radio stations got the LTC album, and many places, including XM, is playing the duet version. It's just that the label legally can't ask them to do so.

I was at Margaritaville in Orlando this past Saturday and they played a video of License to Chill with just Jimmy singing it. No kenny and no girls from Sports Illustrated (not that there's anything wrong with that; the girls that is) The video showed everyone in the studio. It was a good video without Kenny. Just like I have enjoyed the video of Coastal Confessions. It will be good to see the videos soon on a MiniMatinee 2.

I was under the impression that Toby Keith was not in the recording studio when Piece of Work was originally recorded in Key West. He was dubbed and mixed in later.

You look at Toby in the Hey Good Lookin' video he has a winter hat on. LTC was recorded in December of 2003. Toby was in Nashville I believe - I don't know that for sure but I thought I read that somewhere - where it's cold in December and on and on so when he got around to doing his vocal track, it was obviously cold in Nashville. A great reason not to live there.

I find it hard to believe that the record labels have such tension about the fact that even though he or anyone is on the album they won't allow the single to be released. That's just lame.

Besides, look at Toby's newest hits album - doesn't even have his best song on it - I Love This Bar. It has some lame version of Mocking Bird on it. Now THAT is a rip off!

Toby didn't put any of the hits off his latest album on his Greatest Hits album... he didn't want to take away the sales from the most current project, which was still selling well.

Jimmy said Toby came to Key West, but I dunno... I wasn't there that day.

according to the magazine Country Weekly (July 20th 04) ,you know the one with "Country's top stars set sail with Jimmy Buffett" on the cover.

"Alan, Martina, and Toby couldn't make the trip, and sang their parts later in Nashville"
