Anyone had to battle depression, anxiety or had friends or family that had to deal with this?

yes i have been on a low dose for about 5 weeks and the dose was just increased the other day. I am hoping that I feel better, but I think there are side effects I'm experiencing right now...i hope those go away.ph4ever wrote:MelliJellyBean wrote:I'm dealing with it myself right now - lots of physical symptoms.ph4ever wrote:yup whatcha need to know??

Yes for 86 years waiting for the Red Sox to win the World Series. Seriously though I have read that depression is more prevalent in the winter due to the lack of sun and the UV rays, there is a name for it but I just can't think of ot right now. Some shrinks even prescribe UV light treatment kind of like a tanning bed type thing. Cheer up summer is almost here, well not really but.... the clocks change in April which means more sunMelliJellyBean wrote:I'm dealing with it myself right now - lots of physical symptoms.ph4ever wrote:yup whatcha need to know??

or maybe a change of scenery will help you - go on a trip. Geez people don't realize that depression follows you around no matter where you go.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

I've not had any experience having it myself, but my sister has battled it for a long time (well, actually....she's bipolar, but her depressive phases are much longer and worse than her manic ones), as well as several friends of mine. It is tough, and I'm sorry you're going through it. I hope things get better for you. PM me if you ever want someone to talk to....I'm a good listener.

actually anti-depressants can help with that too
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.
I have not had depression myself, but have a number of friends battling it with varying degrees of success. I have also done a fair amount of reading on the subject, so if I can also be of help, please feel free to PM me.
As for the side effects, one of the great problems is that people taking antidepressants go off them because of the side effects, and also sometimes go off them because they are feeling better and feel, therefore, they no longer need them. The struggle to find the right drug, in the right dosage is a difficult one--continue to consult with your doctors about the side effects.
And, by the way, a great book for anyone wanting to know more about depression is The Noonday Demon-it does a great job at looking at depression from historical, scientific, sociological, psychological, personal, and other viewpoints.

Re: Depression
Sadly I believe that it's more common than most of us want to admit. I know I struggle with the inner demons from time to time whether it be related to a job, a relationship, finances, or any other of life's curveballs.MelliJellyBean wrote:Anyone had to battle depression, anxiety or had friends or family that had to deal with this?
Unfortunately I don't have any answers or I would have Dr. in front of my name, I just wanted to let you know you ain't alone.

ejr is right on... great advice!
Melli- I have been dealing with seasonal affective disorder for probably the last 6 to 7 years now... and it's getting more intense every year. It's really tough for me when the days get shorter and I rarely see the sun for weeks. After the holidays is a really tough time... especially until around March when the days start getting noticeably longer. See your doctor... tough out the winter and work hard at focusing on the positives... forcing myself to be optimistic about spring has helped a lot, but it's not easy... it's just helped.
