Personally, I have no opinion. I've only heard a couple of his songs, we don't have a country radio station in NYC or on LI, I don't get CMT on my cable system and I don't own any of his CDs.

I don't, I was trying to make a point. I think by now everyone knows how you feel, there's no need to keep beating that dead horse. If you don't like Chesney there's a simple solution. When you see a thread with his name in the title, pass it by.a1aara wrote:Why do you care?LIPH wrote:Why can't people who don't like him accept the fact that a lot of people do?

With all due respect, why do you?? Why do you care if parrotheads enjoy his music and enjoy listening to him?? I mean aren't we all entitled to our own music tastes and aren't we all entitled to talk about musicians that we like without someone p*** in our corn flakes? Seriously- no matter how much any of us complains about any musician in the end it's not going to matter because we're not going to change anyone's mind and make them not like a particular artist. BUT our complaining makes us look like utter assholes in the eyes of many.a1aara wrote:Why do you care?LIPH wrote:Why can't people who don't like him accept the fact that a lot of people do?

I thought the thread was KC vs. JB.? I thought we were all entitled to our opinions. Pro or con? I agree with you. Just asking a question.ph4ever wrote:With all due respect, why do you?? Guys, the back-and-forth bickering really contributes nothing to the board.
Yes I'm a Buffett fan and as this is a Buffett website it doesn't surprise me that some here like Chesney while others don't. I have no problem with Chesney writing and selling island songs; that's his choice. My disappointment or frustration comes when I see Chesney so favorably compared to Buffett when a reviewer has obviously not given Buffett's music a chance (e.g. never gotten beyond SYKBH because he hasn't been top 40).

I'm not here to take sides, but in all fairness it seems that everytime ph4ever reads a negative post about KC, things turn ugly. With that said, everyone is entitled to their opinion and controversy is easily stirred by a title KC vs JB. Let's all just have fun. Isn't that what music is all about?ph4ever wrote:the course of the discussion took the same turn that so many others that have turned into arguements have taken in the past.

Question for Booze in the Blender or anyone else that knows. I know some JJW stuff, but not all.
Did JJW ever write about the Islands before Cowboy Boots and Bathing Suits?
If he didn't, and Cowboy Boots was a departure from his norm, at that time was he considered gravy training on the Buffettesque thing ?

chesneys music is "hey look at me, i love the slow island life, can someone pass me a pina coloda please, blah blah blah." buffett on the other hand writes about his life adventures, and not all of his songs are island-themed (in fact many of them arent). chesney's life adventures include drinking, working out, and sitting in a damn chair.
if you ask me, chesney wants to take over buffetts crowd when he's done. maybe he thinks that if he puts his own "spin" on the music, ppl wont label him as a complete ripoff

I guess it depends on how you define "islands" but Jerry Jeff has certainly explored themes similiar to what Buffett has in his songs prior to Cowboy Boots and Bathing Suits. I know there's a lot more but a couple of songs that immediately spring to mind are "Sailing" and "Trying To Hold A Wind Up With A Sail".Lou_A1A wrote:Question for Booze in the Blender or anyone else that knows. Okay, if you like KC that is certainly your perogative to do so. But I get so sick of hearing about Buffett bieing old and Kenny is going to pick up the pieces and "be the heir apparent". His following will always reside in country music only and he will never have the drawing power that JB has!! Don't insult my intelligence by suggesting otherwise.
Also, I think that John Mellencamp should sue KC as well. His video for "Young" looks an awful lot like the "Jack and Diane" video. But, what whould you expect from someone not talented enough to be original.

So let's just leave it at that and forget the but.Pirate Lookin' at 40 wrote:Okay, if you like KC that is certainly your perogative to do so.
That's not your intelligence, that's your opinion (to which you are certainly entitled). And don't get me wrong - I've never called KC the heir apparent to JB. The problem I have is with people stating their opinions as fact, which you've done here.Pirate Lookin' at 40 wrote:But I get so sick of hearing about Buffett bieing old and Kenny is going to pick up the pieces and "be the heir apparent".
