As an iPod owner, I have to take the Apple side here. In what little research I've done comparing the two, I have not seen a single person (outside of Dell) say that the DJ is better. The DJ is less expensive, but when it comes to ease of use, design, and quality, I think there is almost no argument that the iPod is head and shoulders above the DJ.

IPOD for me and the missus. I have a 15g and she has a 20g.
Currently I am putting Late Night Cafe on it as I type this.
For ease of use go with the POD. Great accessories also especially the ITRIP!

There is only one choice - iPod.
Period.

I've got a Dell Pocket DJ and I like it. I haven't used an Ipod so I can't give a fair comparison, but I find the Dell easy to use and the only problem I have had with it is its hard for me to keep the earbuds in my ears while working out.

Al I have the DJ my only complaint is the lcd screen looks like it burned through in a spot, makes it hard to read. This happened about 2 months after I got it, Dell wouldn't do anything because I didn't buy the extra warranty,

I just got my iPod and I LOVE it! Does anyone know if there is anywhere else that you can download songs and books from though besides apple?

I don't have any personal experience with the Dell version. However, I would not base my decision on accessories. For example, "itrip" is nothing more than an FM Modulator which is readily available and can function with pretty much any audio device. Most of the time, the accessories that are designed exclusively for Ipod's are more expensive and sometimes lack quality. Ipod is a great product, especially the new "shuffle", but do your research and make sure to listen to both of them. Sound quality on the Ipod is fantastic. Hope that helps :D :D

The answer you will get from most people is "no," but the truth is that other sites are out there. Contrary to what most download services would have you believe, the iPod is compatible with a wide range of audio formats, just not Sony's ATRAC, RealMedia's RM formats, or Microsoft's WMA. Apple is trying to be the only retailer for iPod, but the truth is, there are companies out there selling good old fashioned mp3s, you just have to look.
Personally I like the iTunes Music store, and think the pricing is fair, but this country's economy was built on competition (or at least the appearance of it). Ultimately, the iPod will have to adapt and accept other formats (sorry Steve), just not yet. When the time comes Apple will begrudgingly release an update for the iPod to accept new formats, or begin licensing their own format to other retailers.
In the meantime, look around for mp3 sites (some are legal, others questionable) and take some satisfaction in the fact that even though you are more or less tied to only one option (the iTunes Music Store, or iTMS as some prefer to call it) most experts agree that the one you're stuck with is the best one out there.

Want to chime in quickly here. The iTrip runs on the iPod's power (Shuffle model excluded), rather than seperate batteries, that's what makes it unique, and worth a few extra bucks (I've had batteries die on my old FM transmitter when I was in the middle of nowhere, no fun). As far as quality goes, sure, there's crap out there, but there are a lot of quality products made especially for the iPod (especially products from Griffin Technology).
The iPod also has achieved such a considerable market share that auto makers and car stereo manufacturers are developing iPod specific car audio technology, a huge benefit to the iPod since no FM modulator or tape deck adapter can match the audio quality of having your iPod hooked directly up to your head unit.
Oh, and if you're shopping for an iPod mini, hold on a month or so, the new 5 GB mini should hit the market this spring.

Good info. I didn't mean to say all of it is crap, just to be careful. My company sells a lot of that type of equipment and some if it is junk in a pretty package. As always, research is your best friend. :D :D

Thanks for your input pholks. I have done some research on them but wanted to hear what some of you had to say.

Brad - I sent you a PM with an idea for keeping them in.
Sis - The whole reason I asked for input was because I bought one of each. Just wanted to make sure I gave you the better one.
Jim - I do remember you telling me about that problem with yours.

Thanks again.

How about Audiobooks for iPod? Their list is quite limited.
