The funny part to me is that he didn't want to make this album in the first place. He mentioned it to his label and they said "sure, we'll see, maybe". Not until they actually heard the music did they say that he HAD to make the album and they would help him promote it even though it wasn't a "country" album.
Question: "And now Kenny Chesney has recorded a beach album." Jimmy's Answer: "It's flattering. Some people say I should be p*** off about it but I'm really not. It's the highest form of flattery, and I'm fine with it."

Are we talking about the same Jimmy Buffett here?
.....you read my mind, sonofabeach.

Anyway, I for one, couldn't care less if KC recorded childrens songs or rap music. But if he did, I wouldn't immediately start comparing him to The Wiggles or Eminem, or accusing him of stealing their "image". Jeez, the guy just wants to sing and be successful at it. If he emulates Jimmy at all then I'd say "who freakin cares?!"

After all, imitation is the best form of flattery. And NO ONE can take the place of Jimmy.........NO ONE!

Yes, because only narrow minded people pigeon hole themselves like that. Real music fans seek out artists who are vital. I tried to keep a straight face when I was typing that, I really did.

Hey now...

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Jimmy originally try to make it as a country singer in Nashville before doing the whole island/beach thing? Switching gears midstream doesn't seem like such a bad idea.

I wasn't even going to read it - but for some reason - shear curiosity - and whet really bothered me - not really the Kenny Bashing bc I am over that and it's rampant unfortunately on this site... but it was the fact of how Kenny was not allowed to change.... Jesus - if I was suppossed to stay texactly the way I was way back when - I would have been a geek who didn't know who Buffett was wearing floods myself..... The immaturity and lack of acceptance of change in others is probably one of the dumbest postings I have ever read. Gee - Jimmy Buffett never changed over the years - c'mon - give me a break. get a life..... get over your jealousy of KC and move the $uck on......some change is good

Pirate Lookin' at 40 wrote:I think that would be a more appropriate name for Kenny Chesney's new CD. After all, that's what his whole career is about. I remember the first time I saw Chesney was at Cotton Eye Joes in Knoxville right at the time he was putting his first record out. They introduced him and he strolled out onto the dance floor and done a few songs. He was wearing roach killer cowboy boots with bright shiny tips on them (for those of you that wear shiny tips on your boots, be advised that you are being laughed at behind your back every time you go out in public), a pair of levi jeans that looked about 6 inches too short and a cowboy hat that must have been shaped by Ronnie Milsap. The point is that this guy was not anywhere close to being a cowboy and had never wore any of that stuff until he signed a record deal. Oddly enough, he didn't do any Buffett songs or even sing about the beach. But, I guess that was before some of his friends in the business turned him on to Buffett. He was fake then and he is fake now. The only thing that Kenny Chesney and Jimmy Buffett have in common is that they both sing about Jimmy Buffetts life. Jimmy has lived the songs that he sings about. Kenny Chesney has not.

So c'mon Kenny, for once in your life, why don't you really just Be as you are and quit trying to be as Jimmy Buffett is.
