Need help with shrimp!

Post by bananaman »

I'm planning on marinating and skewering the shrimp on the barbie for the show but I don't know what kind of marinades to use. Any suggestions?

Lawrys makes a great teriyaki with pineapple juice and one with lime juice that is great. You don't really have to marinade them, just brush it on as it cooks. You won't be disappointed. Use this a lot. Also use it on chicken, halibut and swordfish. Just cook about 2 minutes a side. Cook them too long and they are tough.

Teriyaki or BBQ sauce is good, and easy. Just remember that shrimp are "delicate;" you don't need to marinade them more than 20-30 minutes or else they'll only taste like the marinade.

Make sure to add a little oil or melted butter to your marinade to keep the shrimp from drying out while they're cooking.

Okay, this thread makes me want to make shrimp. So let's hear from you folks - how do YOU do shrimp? Not necessarily for tailgating, but at home.

Grilled, in stir fry, over pasta with alfredo, on pizza....

Stir fry with salt, pepper, butter or olive oil, garlic, and paprika. Squeeze a little lemon or lime on the shrimp and serve with pasta or zucchini, asparagus and cherry tomatoes cut in half.

or Shrimp Kisses!!

I love both of these. They have Lawry's Havana Garlic Lime Marinade With Lime Juice and for some kick they make Lawry's Louisiana Red Pepper Marinade With Lemon Juice.

If you marinade be careful about citrus. If you marinade in say lime or lemon juice or any product that contains them for more than a half hour or so the acid will cook the shrimp. When you go to grill them they will turn quickly into mush.
Yummmm shrimp.
