Don't know about the rest of the country, but for the past 25 years of going to over 60 shows, most in California, it's always been about avoiding beach balls and spilled drinks. Some things never change. Part of the charm of the show, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I don't know what all the complaining is about, perhaps some people are growing both older and up!! Not me! More Beach Balls please, and I'll never cry over spilt beer. As for the cabbie in Irvine, he was not there.PirateJeff wrote:Jahfin wrote: It was before the crowds swelled to the point they have in recent years and you didn't have to spend the entire concert avoiding beach balls, spilled drinks and people singing the wrong lyrics in your ear. Those were the days...

The now defunct Caddy's in downtown cincy AFTER the concert!
Freddy and the Fishsticks played for another hour or so. Don't remember the year, but it was great.
To each their own but I do recall a time before the parrothead madness set in (not that there's anything the matter with that) when you didn't have to spend the entire concert fending off beach balls and keeping the drunks from slinging their beers/frozen concoctions all over you. I even remember Buffett admonishing some audience members when they threw an inflatable shark up on stage. I'm all for having a good time and the party but not when those things start to get in the way of why I'm there to start with which is the music.FFishstick wrote:Don't know about the rest of the country, but for the past 25 years of going to over 60 shows, most in California, it's always been about avoiding beach balls and spilled drinks. Vegas '98 Awesome show. In a drunken state I did crash by the aisle attendant to the floor and was welcomed by some drunk beach ball bashing college students. They gave me their passed out buddies seat. God how I love drunken college kids.doubleb wrote:I would have to say my favorite was oct of 1998 in las vegas /

There are two that I can think off right off - 1991's Outpost Tour at Pine Knob in MI - fantastic fantastic show.
And the Somewhere Over China tour - he did two nights at Pine Knob (Bonnie Raitt opened) and both shows were mind boggling. He opened with Havana Daydreamin' and it was by far the best live version I've ever heard. Back then he was doing more album tracks than the hits. Superb shows.

for me: My first actual Buffett concert at Alpine in 2003; there with a great crew and just enjoying the magic of it all; close second: the MOTM show in KW this year where some little balding guy in shorts with a big beak pushed up on stage and hijacked the Peter Mayer concert...

Jimmy Buffett Sings For The Manatee
May 1, 1992
Sunrise Musical Theatre
It was kind of an impromptu concert, not much advanced notice. A one man acoustic show. He played the usual standards and some ones we would all love to hear now-
Migration
He Went to Paris
Gods Own Drunk
Twelve Volt Man
He even played the Everly Brothers 'Bye Bye Love'
It was not my first or last show, but I believe I will never see a better one!

2 best shows, Haloween night in Key West at Margaritaville 2002 and 2003 All for the Sea benefit at Southampton College. Was right up front for the first set he did with St Somewhere, and moved further to the back for the second set, a couple of us grabbed some chairs to stand on and called it the lawn section. I was also right up front at the benefit show. Good times with good people.

This is easy...
Cincinnati '04. Front row seats and I shook Buffett's hand.
The set list was pretty good, too. Lots of LTC stuff including "Coast Of Carolina."

For those NOT at MOTm 2004, JIMMY HATES THOSE F@#KING BEACH BALLS!!!!!!! (his wording, not mine
) Now that was in the top 2 for concerts. The free, unexpected kind. Especially when your 20 feet from the stage.
My all time favorite concert...Mars Amphitheater West Palm Beach, 2002((???)) maybe. It was my first concert. It was me, Des, Mr. Des (aka Donnie) my other best buddy. Jimmy flew his own plane around above us before the show. I believe we were at Target. (Des help me here). Talk about the way to kick off a show. We danced and sang all night. WAY PHUN!!!
Now, the next best one will be the NEXT NASHVILLE SHOW!!!!!!! Come on Jimmy, PLEASE!!!!!!!!
