Could the sound have been any worse?
There were several times when Jimmy's guitar was not even connected and when Mac and Jimmy went to the back to play to the behind the stage people mac had no mic.
It was a great setlist, but the sound was pathetic, out of the dozens of shows I've been to, the sound last night was by far the worst.
Going to Tampa next weekend, I hope it's better.

the sound (where I was) for both the Columbus and Orlando shows last year was pretty good. I don't think it is entirely an indoor-outdoor thingVB for Buffett wrote:Monkey wrote:Could the sound have been any worse?

May be the case up there, but the Office Depot Center has horrible acoustics. I have seen Jimmy there twice. The first time I was in the lower level about half way back on the floor and couldn't understand a word he was saying and swore I'd never go back. Next year I was on the floor and it was better, but still not great.RinglingRingling wrote:the sound (where I was) for both the Columbus and Orlando shows last year was pretty good. I live about 20 minutes from the ODC, and am driving 4 hours across the state to see him at Tampa, outside, where he belongs. I don't know the logistics as to why he stopped playing Coral Sky outside up in West Palm - and can only assume he makes more money playing the ODC - but I'd never pay to see him there again.

actually, there is a reason that Coral Sky is off the venue option list, and it doesn't have anything to do with size/sellout as much as a backstory.EZ wrote:May be the case up there, but the Office Depot Center has horrible acoustics. I'm not trying to be a Devil's advocate or disagreeable, but my wife, my two daughters, some friends, neighbors, and myself, thought the sound was totally acceptable. It ain't a perfect world out there, the show was splendid as far as large venues go. Next year can't come quick enough. I guess we're the glass is half full types instead of half empty. As always, G.M.,Jr.

at least you get to go, TWICE. it could be worse. bad sound at a show is still better than no show at all....Monkey wrote:Could the sound have been any worse?

I'm guessing you're talking about the tragic accident the last time he was there where a fan was hit by a car and killed after the show.RinglingRingling wrote:actually, there is a reason that Coral Sky is off the venue option list, and it doesn't have anything to do with size/sellout as much as a backstory.EZ wrote:May be the case up there, but the Office Depot Center has horrible acoustics. If that is indeed the case, I find it a little odd to use as a reason not to go back. Don't get me wrong; I was very sad to hear about that, and for a long time after that, I prayed for the family and friends of that young lady who was killed. But, that is the kind of thing that could happen anywhere. It could happen at Alpine Valley, Great Woods, Indy, Cincy, Chicago, Vegas, and the list goes on and on. Just because it did happen at WPB seems like an odd reason to never play there again.

This was my first
This was my first time to the Office Depot Center having just moved to Florida from Texas. The seats I had were in sections 433 and even tho I had oxygen-deficiency I thought the view was pretty good. Straight on to the TV screens.
However, I do agree that the sound could have been tweeked tighter, but otherwise the show was great. My 6th in total.
Since I am a newbie here, can anyone direct me to a site for size-proportioned avatars for this board??

My experience at the ODC was enough to keep me from returning. My wife and I had seats in section 419 and the sound was so reflected and awful I couldnt understand a thing he said. Furthermore, the screens and supports were poised that you couldnt see very well at all. finally, out of frustration we left those seats and tried a few spots in the upper aisles where the view was markedly better and the sound acceptable, but not great. That arena was built for hockey and is abyssmal for music. Of course the gouging for drinks was stiff and they hiked the parking fee from $10 to $15 without warning too. I guess youd have to expect that at any venue owned by Wayne Huzienga !
The only thing was good at that venue was the tailgating, and even that was made possible late into the game. The handling of traffic was good as opposed to other concert sites. Ill never go back to the ODC !
The American Airlines Arena had much better acoustics IMO , but NO tailgating there and parking is even worse than the ODC. In summary, south florida needs a new site for Jimmy in the future. I agree that the beach ball stuff is a nuisance during the show. I can see why some that live here would travel good distances to see him.

It does happen at Indy, I'll skip that place unless its some super special concertGypsy In The Palace wrote:I'm guessing you're talking about the tragic accident the last time he was there where a fan was hit by a car and killed after the show.RinglingRingling wrote:actually, there is a reason that Coral Sky is off the venue option list, and it doesn't have anything to do with size/sellout as much as a backstory.EZ wrote:May be the case up there, but the Office Depot Center has horrible acoustics. no. We had decent seats at the AAA in the upper part of the lower level when he played there. Sound was horrible. I struggled to hear him sing or speak.Miami_Max wrote:The American Airlines Arena had much better acoustics IMO , but NO tailgating there and parking is even worse than the ODC. Last year we had good seats at the ODC and the sound was better. This year, the sound was terrible. We were in section 303 and had a difficult time hearing. Our section was DEAD. I don't know if any of the people in that section (other than me and my boyfriend) knew any song other than Margaritaville. I wondered if everyone around us was comatose or something. They all did get up and scream "Salt! Salt! Salt!" at the appropriate time.
I do wish he'd play Coral Sky again. That venue fit a Buffett show perfectly.

I have seen Jimmy the past 3 years in Columbia at the Colonial Center and the sound has been very good all 3 times. The first two years I sat in the upper level and heard everything, this year I had floor seats and well the sound was great. When they built the Center here it was made for concerts, not just basketball.

While any opportunity to see my patron saint is well appreciated, I did think the energy level was a bit less than what I have seen in the Northeast, and especially in November at MOTM.
In my very humble opinion, he looked tired. There was a sense of disconnect unlike any other show I've seen. There were a couple of hiccups . . .luckily the band met him back at one . . .
I agree that the overall sound quality was lacking, but the FLL crowd leaves something to be desired. I was in the 400s and people complained about dancing. I have never seen so many people sitting at a Buffett show.
Regardless, I look forward to seeing him in Tampa and hopefully at Gilette this summer.
PS--the Jack Sparrow character was a hoot!

HI everyone! I agree with a few of you guys who have mentioned the horrible sound quality in the Office Depot arena. I was in the 400 section last year and cound not understand one word. It took me a looong time to get adjusted. This year I was lucky enough to nab floor seats and the sound was awesome last night. It sounded much, much better.
A friend of mine was in the 300 section behind the stage last night. He and his wife decided to stand up and dance. A woman behind him was very upset. My friend suggested that she go call security. He noticed a little while later that she never returned back to her seat. My philosphy (when I was much younger) was if I wanted to actually see whoever was playing on stage, I would pay whatever it took to be on the floor, up front. Now that I am older it doesn't really matter to me where I am located in the arena. I just want to hear the music and have fun. Jimmy's concerts are all about having fun. I loved the camera which caught people in the stands who were all dressed up and dancing. I also loved the tailgaters on the screens. I guess it pays to show up at 8:00 am in the parking lot!!!! And how about Jimmy surfing!!! That was great!

Man this sounds so different than the Columbia show. The crowd was going most of the night. There were times when he played a few of the older songs where some of the crowd sat down cause they didnt know the song. But for majority of the show the crowd was loud and singing along and dancing. Southern Cross I send you an open inviation to come on down to SC next year for a show, been to 3 here and everyone have had a great time.SouthernCross71 wrote:While any opportunity to see my patron saint is well appreciated, I did think the energy level was a bit less than what I have seen in the Northeast, and especially in November at MOTM.
