Buffett's new plane
According to the FAA records, Buffett's aircraft corporation Strange Bird, Inc. registered with the FAA a 1992 Falcon 900 business jet on 2/17/2005. It has at least 6 more seats than his old Falcon 50. Sweet!

Are these numbers assigned or do they stand for something? I got the JB, but N908 is beyond me.MikeInNOLA wrote:Keep your eyes out for tail number N908JB...has the familiar FINS marking on the tail engineJamminJoe wrote:According to the FAA records, Buffett's aircraft corporation Strange Bird, Inc. registered with the FAA a 1992 Falcon 900 business jet on 2/17/2005. techincally it's a 900B, with a Honeywell SPZ-8000 avoinics suite in it, 5 tube EFIS, (5x6 CRTs) dual flight guidance computers, and dual FMS's.

Re: Buffett's new plane
The "N" identifies it as a US Registration. Different countries have different alpha-codes assigned. I gather the rest is just a registration number...although, it seems personalized registration numbers are available. Jimmy's old Falcon was N502JB. Oprah's G-IV is N54OW...Travolta has N707JT.Ilph wrote:Are these numbers assigned or do they stand for something? Guess it is like the goofy folks who drive around with personalized license plates!

I have a few technical questions about the "Corporation". So Buffett starts an aviation corporation for his planes then depreciates them and "rents" the planes from himself. In the end this ends up to be a tax savings? Is this anywhere near the reason or would someone with more business experience clarify this. I'm just curious about how this works...tx

NPR did a story last week on the annual dinner meeting of all the bigtime hollywood tax guys that handle the finances of the "stars". they get together once a year and talk over the latest scams er tax shelters, etc. the IRS considers the cost of private aircraft, limos, fancy hotels, etc. a 100% deduction for someone in showbiz since their "stardom" has created the need to protect themselves from their fans. go figure.... the IRS even bought the argument that a unflattering photo of star being screened by airport security and published in a tabloid would be detrimental to their career. therefore the need for private planes.....Capt Garry wrote:I have a few technical questions about the "Corporation". pretty much anybody with a lot of money puts their private planes in a shell corporation for liability reasons. i have 2 clients with multiple aircraft. they put each airplane in its own corp. that way if one crashes the other aircraft are not exposed to the lawyers as assets of the corp.

I would think the shell corp would protect not just the other aircraft but the individual (in this case JB) from liability, as well.AlbatrossFlyer wrote:NPR did a story last week on the annual dinner meeting of all the bigtime hollywood tax guys that handle the finances of the "stars". they get together once a year and talk over the latest scams er tax shelters, etc. the IRS considers the cost of private aircraft, limos, fancy hotels, etc. a 100% deduction for someone in showbiz since their "stardom" has created the need to protect themselves from their fans. go figure.... the IRS even bought the argument that a unflattering photo of star being screened by airport security and published in a tabloid would be detrimental to their career. therefore the need for private planes.....Capt Garry wrote:I have a few technical questions about the "Corporation". His 4th plane would be the Hemisphere Dancer which is parked in Orlando. Any insight as to why that one has seemingly been retired? (although JB claims it isn't)
