A Salty Piece of Land (book)

Post by bucknutdet »

I just finished reading it last night. I was very impressed and a little sad. First off, I wish the book wasn't over, I could've kept reading for a long time. Secondly, although the book was very fun and entertaining, I found the ending to be bittersweet. Maybe that was part the emotion of the book and part due to the fact that I knew I was reading the last 30 pages or so. But I enjoyed it tremendously, maybe moreso than Joe Merchant.

Each chapter or so, seemed to be it's own short story. I was impressed with the way Jimmy was able to intertwine all of those stories and characters into a wonderful book, full of escapism fantasy and tropical philosophy. You really felt engaged with Tully and Cleopatra and the supporting characters were an intersting lot as well. I especially enjoyed the part with Willie and the Keeds, that was fun.

Anyway, those are my thoughts after finishing last night. I truly enjoyed it and wish this lunch would've lasted forever.

Cool..I can't wait to start reading this. I just finished Bob Dylan's book, and ASPOL is next on my list.

I finished not too long ago myself and also wished the journey hadn't ended. ASPOL was truly a fun read and I began to think of some of the characters as real (or maybe I have met characters like that during my own travels).

I'll defintely go back and revisit Cayo Loco someday soon.

PHins up.

I finished it about 5 weeks ago I guess. I liked it alot although I thought it dragged a little in a couple of spots. I didn't however, like it as much as I did Joe Merchant.
