"Trading Etiquette"

Post by cowboyjunkie »

I've joined two vines that never made it past five or six names. Recently, I've received some emails offering $$ for a copy of the Ft. Lauderdale show. Perhaps the moderators could post a sticky about trading etiquette and a dead vine list of people who kill vines. Then, they could be removed from all future vines.

Thanks for bringing that up, Cowboy. I don't know a whole lot about trading etiquette, but I do know FOR CERTAIN that keeping $$$ out of the equation is a "good thing." Anyone else have any pearls of wisdom on the subject?

I have had the good fortune to not have been burned in a trade, I have had good experiences with all of my trades or BnP's that I have been involved in. I know of people here that have had some bad experiences with traders not living up to their end of the deal
I have noticed that a lot of the vines never get very far either.
I think that if you make a deal to do a trade or BnP then you should follow through with it.
The same goes for the vines. If you are not able to burn a cd DON"T sign up. If you get the disks and are having trouble copying them and sending them on to the next person PLEASE have the decency to post a message to let the other people on the vine know what is going on.
If I see that someone has stopped a vine or has burned somebody in a trade I will not trade with them.
There are some names that appear on the vines from time to time and when I see them I know that the vine does not have a chance.

cowboyjunkie is right about the need for a vinekiller list
I think that bad traders or vinekillers should be named and then they can explain why they are not following through with the deal. If they
don't choose to explain then they should at least be kept off of the vines.

A still think a BLACK LIST is in order.

Vines for Dummies...

Post by Larry422 »

I am all new to the vine thing. Can someone make sure I get this right:

1. You sign up for the vine.

2. Once the person above you receives their copy, they make one for you and forward it on.

3. When you receive your copy, you make a copy and send it to the next person in the vine.

Simple as that, right?

Pretty close.

Someone makes a recording of the show via RM. Who ever feels they have the cleanest copy (I've found Hawaiiboy's to have some of the best) and has time to break it up into tracks will make a master copy.

The master copy gets sent out to the next person on the list. That person burns themself a copy and forwards the master on to the next person.

ok, I am also a vine thingie illiterate. I was just sent 3 CD's for the Key West Anniversary show. I know I need to make copies but where do I find who to send them to next? There is no list with the CD"s and it was a looonngg time ago that I added my name to the list. Also, another "etiquette" issue....I received a wonderful picture of Jimmy and Tony Terracino with the Cd's. Is this to keep? Or do I have to send it on? How could I copy it if I need to? It's not a usual photograph but but looks like it is printed on some very thick high quality vellum type paper. Please help! :o

I made the copy of the pic of Jimmy and Captain Tony and intended for it to stay with the originals.
However, you can make all the copies you would like. :D

You need to check the vine to find out who you are supposed to send it to. Send that person a message letting them know that you have it and request their mailing address. Send them the CD's. If they do not answer you with in a few days or so move on to the next person.

Also make sure that you update the vine and let everyone else know where the vine is at

I agree. Or at least a list where the person fails to send a CD on to the next person. And then if their name shows up a few times on THE LIST, they SHOULD BE SKIPPED.

Just an idea but maybe limiting the number of people that can sign up for each vine might help. Maybe limit it to 15 or 20 people and then re-vine. Either that or set up two or three vines that run at the same time.

you can join a vine any time that you like

be aware that they are almost always very slow moving here and a lot of the vines die out long before they get to the end of the list

I have been involved in the spreading of music in other web sites and this one is the only that does it with moving a master copy from person to person. The others I have been involved with start with one person offering a set of three copies as a weed or vine, 2 copies go to people who can "burn" and one to someone who is "burnerless". After eac of the burners are recieved they then in turn must offer up the same deal(three copies) to the rest of the board, it moves quick and dies out due to saturation not slow motion. Some of the people with this method will complain their copy of a copy is not as good as the way it waould be just copying the master. I say numebr one who really knows if they have the true master and I don't care how much better the copy will be in this current system because IF IT NEVER GETS TO ME I DO NOT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE. The average person will never know the difference between the two recordings anyway. Just my opinions I know people will not care to hear them but I just had to express them as I really would love to get a copy of the show I attended some time.
