Review from the Columbus Dispatch

Post by a1aara »

Be as You Are : Songs From an Old Blue Chair ’

Kenny Chesney

(BNA): The reigning king of country music could have played it safe with the formula that has made him so popular. But on his latest, Chesney plays up a vacation instead of his vocation.

Chesney (who wrote each song) prescribes lounging in the Caribbean, where even a star and a beach bunny from Boston can find solace in the sun, sea, sand and surf.

Although Jimmy Buffett has carved a similar niche under the entertainment palm tree, Chesney has a much better voice and writes with authority.

These 13 songs are laid-back and crisply recorded, with a splash of steel drums throughout, along with the tidal roar that accompanies the "ocean mix" of Old Blue Chair. The overall effect is warm and intimate.

Gary Budzak review

Post by popularpoet »

Unless I'm missing a good joke here, Gary Budzak's dispatch credibility and KC's beach credibility have something in common.......that would be the complete lack of any. And as far as...........nevermind. That review is not worth any more of my time.

I have sent the following e-mail to this moron:

"Although Jimmy Buffett has carved a similar niche under the entertainment palm tree, Chesney has a much better voice and writes with authority."

First off, the niche that Jimmy Buffett has carved is nowhere similar to the one that Kenny Chesney is "carving". Second, Kenny Chesney has an average voice, below average musicanship, and way below average song writing ability. To suggest that he is a better songwriter than Jimmy Buffett indicates to me that you have probably not listened to much of Mr. Buffett's music. Statements such as this will go a long way torward destroying any credibility that you may have built with your reviews. You should consider one thing when taking such a shot at the lack of songwriting authority on the part of Jimmy Buffett: There are legions of people (Parrotheads, perhaps you have heard of them, but I doubt it) that travel great many miles each year to hear the music that he has wrote. I would venture to guess that very few of them, if any, would venture as far as the closest toilet to read anything that you have wrote.

Respectfully,

JB

END OF E-MAIL

Keep in mind, that this is not an anti Kenny Chesney post. This is an anti Gary Budzak post. There are some here that like KC, then there are others such as myself that do not. Whichever category you are in, I think we can all agree that Mr. Budzak is an idiot.

Enough Said.

Well, dunno that I agree that he's an idiot, because I don't know him, but I can certainly agree that this particular review is idiotic.... :D

(And put me solidly in the camp of those who LIKE Kenny! But you don't have to dis' Jimmy to like Kenny, and vice versa.)
