But they didn't turn a church into a brewery, and they don't toast the hops on an altar there.....

Mrs. Play and I will be there.
I found this at
http://pittsburgh.about.com
"PNC Park is located on the Allegheny River, just across from downtown Pittsburgh. The riverfront location means that many people travel to games by boat and the riverwalk located behind right field is a great place to hang out before or after a Pirates game. PNC Park even has a "river watch" sign which tracks the number of home runs hit directly into the river."
So - Who has access to a houseboat in the area?

Just hoping to find a good place to tailgate.

Gold Lot 3 looks good to me...do they not allow tailgating?

there isn't much left of lot 3, they are doing construction on a building. I think it may be a new garage. Gold lot 2 is the future site of a new Small amphitheater that the Roonys(Steelers) are going to build.

OK, so it sounds like Gold 3 is out. Of the other lots on the map, which ones are definitely open lots instead of garages?

You should be okay with all the other lots.....

Thanks for the information on the lots - hopefully we'll know more as the date draws closer.
Which of these hotels would be better and why? My wife and I will be staying;
Sheraton @ Station Square
Courtyard @ Penn Ave.
Hilton @ Commonwealth Pl.
Omni @ William Penn Place

From reading your earlier posts, it seems you have your heart set on parking and tailgating, so location and transportation options probably don't matter to you. If that's the case, I think I'd still recommend staying at Station Square. Lots of shops, bars and restaurants there. If you don't plan on taking all your tailgating stuff with you, you could take the boat to PNC Park. The Hilton would be OK, just across the river. I don't think I'd pick the Omni, not a PH kind of place and I know nothing about the Courtyard but I've read here there may be many others staying there.

Thanks fleshandbone - Station Square sounds cool, but I'm not sure about the water taxi. Do they run enough of them to keep the wait down? I don't want to be standing in line for an hour before and after the concert. As for the parking and tailgating, well I guess you've got me pegged.

Four Play.....I mentioned in an earlier post that Station Square would probably be the place to be for entertainment purposes. That would be a great place to stay if you are coming in for the weekend. The boat will probably run quite frequently and it's not like a river boat you would see in San Antonio (I am assuming you've been there) but more like the size of a large paddle boat. They run them frequently when there are large events in the Burg. My wife and I stayed at the Omni this past winter on a "romance package"...nice hotel but you won't find the "buffet package" there.
I guess when it comes down to it stay at the hotel that is within walking distance. Each of those hotels are nice but you'll want to be able to just pack it up and head to the lots. Being in Pittsburgh for football tailgates I'll tell everyone that it's going to take the uniqueness of parrot heads to make the event great. There will be tons of folks staying in hotels looking for a place to party that are walking from hotels. When Springsteen was here they closed the Clemente Bridge for pedestrian traffic and the bars on that strip were packed.
Hope this helps....see you and your wife there.....Sec 20

Hint: look for one w/ an outside pool. Since we picked the Westin which is the furthest away w/ an indoor pool. Either way, I can't WAIT!!!

Thanks Simas - I'm really leaning toward Station Square. It seems like the place to be for Saturday night and it's only a mile away from the venue. We could always do the Four Play crawl after the show -

Where is everybody?
According to the Pittsburgh area PHC, there won't be any decisions on RV Parking until April sometime. So I guess we'll got to sit tight.
I'm holding a room at all of the hotels I listed above, so if anyone needs a room send me a PM.

I got another email from the Pittsburgh area PHC. Their pre-concert party is at Margarita Mama's Saturday, June 25th. (4pm - ??)
They don't have the details on their website yet, but from the flyer it looks like it's going to be a great party.

Here's another question for the locals.
Is Station Square upstream or downstream from PNC? I'm thinking about using an inflatable raft or tube for transportation. We could float downstream and carry it upstream if we have to.
I'm completely serious BTW.
THANKS!

Uh oh, we aren't getting to Pittsburgh until show day.

Might have to see if we can change that to work in a Saturday night at Station Square!
Everyone have their tickets?! Anyone else get their tickets only to find the section number isn't listed on the tickets? I called and they said "no problem, as long as there is a barcode on the ticket." The girl I talked to at tickets.com didn't seemed worried at all about it...probably because she won't be the one explaining to the security people that "this REALLY is my seat!"
Three months from tomorrow!
