On the A1A album there is a verse in Stories we could tell that goes "Stared at that guitar in that museum in Tennessee
Name plate on the glass brought back twenty melodies
Scars upon the face told about all the times he fell
Singin' all the stories he could tell". Does anyone know who this is supposed to be? I called Cocotel from a payphone in Honolulu back in '92 and the operator told me he thought it was about Elvis. This to me doesn't make since. All the times he fell? It has haunted me for years please help!

You probably already know this but just in case it may be worth mentioning that the song was written by John Sebastian of Lovin' Spoonful fame.

I have no idea who he's referring to in the song but my guess would be Hank Williams, Sr.

Thanks I knew it wasn't about Elvis but I didn't know it was written by someone else. Cash or Hank Sr. would be my guess as well. I can finally rest after 13 years of torment!

If you've heard the live version on "Hawaii", he says "Scars upon the face told of all the times Hank fell." 8) (JM's favorite song)

Cool. I haven't heard the Hawaii CD yet but at least after all these years the one little question I had has been answered. Thanks, now back to my Corona and lime - AKA "The Buffett Stuff It"

I know he's refering to Hank Sr. but in the version in my head I like to think of Hank Williams Jr instead, after all he nearly died when he fell off a mountain and now has a beard to hide the scars (and a glass eye which is why you never see him without sunglasses.

Yeah I think it is Hank Sr. In Hawaii he says,
...brought back 20 melodies.
The scars upon the face told of all the times that Hank fell,
He did it for the stories he could tell...

A glass eye?
Really?
Wow.
Perhaps he and his rowdy friends should settle down a bit.. you know... you can put an eye out being too rowdy!
