Sam I asked a question back that Wino answered but if you did I'm sorry I missed it. Do you belong to any group that has been formed to change the laws as they stand as a result of this case and did you also contact your state representatives regarding this case?

Connie,
After one of of your responses to me that stated I was repetitive and you were done with me or some such,....I did not feel you were talking to me or wanted me to answer you.
You said what about my questions? You flat out refused to answer them.
Why should I answer yours?
But to be more courteous to you than you have been to me, I will answer yours.
I do not belong to any group,... but yes I have contacted many various people at various levels and voiced my views about Terri Shiavo and how I feel about the intentional starvation and dehydration of an innocent person being cruel and inhumane...not even convicted felons, pedophiles, rapists, terrorists, murderers, etc are subjected to such treatment....
There!...I answered your questions which is more courtesy than you did me!
Care to reconsider and answer my questions?
Perhaps if more people DID take an active interest in their representitives
at all levels...and reminded them everyday that they are there because we put them there to do a job and we can remove them just as easily....perhaps....just PERHAPS.... they might actually get some legislation done that is actually beneficial to US instead of all the pork barrel crap and bickering that continues to go on.
My feelings are... generally you will find more sense made by a group of 3 year olds, than the suppose to be educated adults elected by us to represent us and our various states...of course there are exceptions...but I can't think of one...

Sam I refused to answer your questions because you repeatedly asked the same questions over and over again. No matter how many different ways you word them they were the same questions I answered in the previous thread. So why should anyone be subjected to the same question over and over again?? Your rewording of the questions is not going to change my opinion or answers, I can reword my answers but they are going to be basically the same. Understand where I'm coming from? Come up with new questions and I'll be glad to answer them. Incidently Sam, this is something that I must consider in my life because of a receint medical diagnosis - although it's not inniment(sp) it's something that I may have to face in the distant future and my stance does not change at all. Don and my son are both aware of my stance that I don't want to be kept alive by ANY artificial means - if I'm not "there" if the possibility of me not ever being "there" are very minimal they know I choose to die with dignaty and not to be held in a state of limbo for years. While I have all plans and hopes to beat my dragon and get well - I also know that in life there are no guarantees and I have to be prepared in case the medical options and procedures I'm faced with simply don't work for me. I'm lucky - what I have has a good success rate for the long term providing I make the necessary lifestyle changes but in medicine there are no 100% guarantees either and you do know that rather well don't you?
There have been several people here that have had to ask you questions repeatedly - it's almost as if you are selective in your responses, or it at least appears that way. You speak of me being courteous - look in the mirror when you say that because you are just as guilty as I.
The reason why I asked you the questions is becuase I have found, in my life, that there are many people who jump on a bandwagon but actually don't do anything for the cause they are preaching about. I have more respect for those that actually do something about the cause they are talking about vs those that don't.

Yet again Sam, the issue in the Shaivo case has nothing to do with the ethics of removing the feeding tube.
It is perfectly legal and constitutional to do so.

I had an interesting conversation with Les's mom last night. She is in town visiting - went to her old job to visit where many of these people knew Michael and Terry from way back before this horrible tragedy happened - Michael was on a softball team with them as well and they are all in shock because they remember Michael ADORING Terry- he couldn't do enough for her. He always talked about her and how much he loved her.
After the went into a coma- he was the one who fought to have the best care for her - at one pointthey almost banned him from visiting because he wantd so much attention and care put into tTerry that the nurses didn't have enough time for the other patients - this is documented. He never wanted it publicized - like it is now. He was trying hard to keep her life out of the spotlight. He is getting no insurance money and he just - as he has said all along - wants to give her what she wanted.
Please note that the real fight with parents came right about the time there was money involved. I am sticking to my belief that Michael is looking out for Terry's best interest much more than anyone else - everyone obviously has their own opinion as we have beat THAT horse to death... but I think what has me angered the most is Jeb Bush and his last ditch resort -bringing a Dr in last minunte who didn't even examine Terry - to use Terry to help his agenda is disgusting and I hope the whole plan backfires on him when it is re election time.
Let Terry die in peace. THe Cat scan proved she is far too brain damaged to ever recover. Why did she not have an NRI.... bc the what michael had them do in cA (in a great hope that this advanced tech would work) - they put something in her that would make an mri ineffective. Anyway - she is braindead. Cannot process that she is starving. (Thank God) and should at this point be jerked around - on off on off ... she is not a public piece of property to fight over as her husband put it (and he is SO right) ..... to discuss the topic is one thing - but for the people who are intervening - shame on them. It;s time to move on and help the thousands of others out there who could use their ferver for justice!!!!!

Megan, the good thing there is that he cannot run again. Lets just hope he does not run for president. Our government is starting to act like the Taliban. Lets hope the people who are not right-wing religious wackos will not stand for this!

Its all Ted Turner's fault........
Hear me out. Before there was one 24 hour/7 day news channel, news and happenings were reported on fairly and reasonably accurately. Reporters had the time to research and review information and present fact based reports. Now that there are multiple 24 hour news sources and any guy with a GQ look or any magazine cover "hottie" can be a reporter facts have been left in the dust for the sake of speed.
It no longer matters who got it the most correct, but who got it the fastest. Dan Rather aside, most false reports are brushed under the table, because there have been 15 more on any given subject.
In addition the proliferation of 24 hour news has caused an increase in the number of people seeking "instant celebrity". Therefore you have Doctors who have not seen her personally stating their opinion as FACT. We have lawyers (whores) on both coasts jumping in without having read or heard anything more than the sound bite of a judges opinion. AND we have those with their own private agendas using this families situation to get themselves on one, two or all the news casts.
If this were pre-CNN, as tragic as the case is, it would have been a local side-bar news story at best and probably never been a national story. But because of this incredible need to fill all these networks with the fastest news, with the most sensational story, a personal tragedy is now national headlines. The trgedy is not just what is happening to the family, the tragedy is what we all have become in the last 20 years.

My question is why are they giving her morphine for if is she is brain dead? This is far from a "peaceful" death.

if you read more about PVS, you will realize that it is not the same as brain dead.
I would think that morphine is being given because it is part of hospice care to make sure there is a peaceful death. It is generally believed that patients in PVS do not feel pain and, therefore, do not suffer, but because people do not come out of PVS, there is a slight bit of room for question there, and as long as there is any chance of feeling, morphine is given to make sure there is no pain.

I've not added to this thread until now (I think), but I must comment on this... right on!!!

This very question was asked on Larry King night before last (I think it was night before last), one of the doctors that examined her years ago said that it is not unusual in cases like this to give the patient morphine. It is done so more for the family members than the patient - to help ease the family's mind.

No matter what your opinion of this whole tragic situation, this is just WRONG, IMHO:
The feud between the parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, and their son-in-law continued even after her death: The Schindlers' spiritual advisers said the couple had been at their daughter's bedside minutes before the end came, but were not there at the moment of her death because Michael Schiavo did not want them in the room.
just
wrong, not to let parents attend their child's death.........
