Sorry for complaining. I'm worried I'm not going to get a Jimmy fix this year, and this is cause for concern.
I know we're not supposed to ask about tickets....

I know we're not supposed to ask about tickets....
But, is it just me or are the ticket dates being released really sporadically and later than usual this year? Looking back, we've purchased our tickets around St. Patty's Day for the last several years. This year, we're finding out about a date here or there and still no full tour. I'm more concerned that if he doesn't come to Detroit, I'm going to get screwed for passing up a potential road trip.

and with the other dates being on sundays and mondays, it really limit my road trip chances without 'wasting' a bunch of vacation...last year things were similar to this year...onsale dates were all over the chart, but we at least knew the dates of the shows...I think the rest of the shows will be dropped on us all at once and then everyone will either be glad their city got a show or p*** b/c they were left out...

I think in a way the tickets being released so late is a favor to us from Jimmy especially if they announce ticket sales the week they are to go on sale as they did for great woods. This helps to keep the casual fan at bay, because you really need to be on the lookout to know when your tickets are going to be onsale. Unfortunately this hurts the longterm planning aspect of it. I also see the high ticket prices as helping to keep the sykbh crowd out. I know it hurts our budgets a little more, but I don't see to many people paying a hundred bucks when they only know 3-4 songs. Just my 2 cents, I don't know if any of this has been mentioned before, but just trying to see the brighter side of the major changes in ticket sales for 05. Would also like to note Ticketmaster seemed to do a comendable job for the tweeter center sales online, seemed like no one got booted out of the system from the threads I have read.

phenwayparrothead, don't take this the wrong way (because it is just my 2 cents), but IMHO I think the high ticket prices and the stadium venue will only attract more of SYKBH-only crowd. I have read a lot of posts by diehard PH's who say they are skipping shows if it is a stadium or the tix are to high in price. I fall into that venue category because I ain't going anywhere unless there is a lawn to sit on. Boston unfortunately was just to far. Praying on Nissan! Please tiki gods let Nissan be so
And so sad about Camden
I had tickets up on the screen multiple times during the Pittsburg and Philly pre-sales and had the strength to just say no. I will admit it was tough, but I stuck to my guns No Lawn, No Show.
As Jimmy sings:
I don't want to live on that kind of island
No, I don't want to swim in a roped off sea.
Too much for me, too much for me
I've got to be where the wind and the water are free.
Yeah, I know the concert will never be 'free' and I am not really against paying top $ for tickets, but just as I got hooked on Jimmy, so did I on the lawn lifestyle.

My problem isn't with the lack of time but the fact that tickets are going on sale on a Monday. I guess all the unemployed phans get first dibs.

Ya, I can definitely see your side of the story from the standpoint that some of the parrotheads will just say there is no way I'm paying a 50% increase in ticket prices, but at the same time I think Jimmy is making way more of an attempt to reach out to keep his original fan base than we give him credit for. The last minute ticket sales thing to me is definitely a sign of it. Unless your constantly checking the web, as most of us here do, there is a good chance you will miss the sale dates, and be left out of tickets. And like I had said, I don't see your typical sykbh fan wanting to shell out the 100 bucks for the show. Also I think if you look at the set lists for this tour really points to the shows being more aimed to the longtime parrotheads. It seems to me everyone wants to place all this blame on Jimmy and say he's sold out his original fan base, I don't see this as being true. Could you imagine if Jimmy did a tour where tickets were in the 10-20 dollar range, no one would be able to get tickets. I also see Jimmy's return to great woods as a sign he's listening to the phans, otherwise you would probably be seeing him pulling in the big payday at gillette.

Can't argue with your comment on the set list. Just look at 'Woman Goin' Crazy on Caroline Street', which has always been a favorite of mine. And on a few occasions in past years I've made the complaint that JB never plays any oldies unless they were SYKBH caliber. I will agree the bigger venues make more seats available, but it just isn’t my type of venue for JB. I did post in the past that that won’t make it a bad concert, it just won’t make it a great one for me. I hope fans that have never been able to get tickets get them this year. Some of the bad luck stories are terrible.
I have always considered myself lucky with tix by phone or in line. I only struck out once since ’88 so we settled that year for a backyard party and ran RM out from the PC to a stereo and all sat around and pretended we where sitting on the lawn in Camden.
It has gotten a lot harder each year with show dates being cut back and with each new keet upping the count one more ticket and that includes two more families that we usually go with. It is amazing we have always gotten tix.
Well, for me at least, we have a shot at Nissan, unless the tiki gods are unhappy with me. I better go and start making my offerings now to appease them.

We've gotta roll with the punches

And learn to trust your intuition
Plowin' straight ahead come what may.

I see your point about the "casual" fan maybe not wanting to pay more for the tickets, but I'd be surprised if too many casual fans are "lucky" enough to get tickets. If you're not on top of your game (and even sometimes if you are) you are S.O.L. on getting tickets. They're gone in 60 seconds, like the movie.
I don't mind the short lead times, in fact that is probably a good thing, but I don't like having to guess where he's going to appear (and when, for that matter). Do I buy tickets for Cinci, assuming he's not coming to the D? I just want the dates announced all together so I can plan. I like to plan. I like to not stress.
Sorry for whining so much... I'm just glad to see I'm not the only one left wondering about the rationale behind this!

sparty, i'm in the same boat with you - stressing over it - i want to have a PLAN - i want to KNOW what's happening with this stuff - it's a BIG deal for me, as it is for everyone here. i don't want to miss my christmas! cause i look forward to his concerts now like i looked forward to christmas when i was 8! have to just keep checking and keep my faith that JB wouldn't ignore a large phan base like this area.
i like the idea of not announcing the ticket sale dates until later - i don't mind being on top of my game, i usually am - but i just want dates.. whah whah whah...

Indecision may or may not be my problem.
