Reggae Tribute

so we got a reggae tribute to Jimmy Buffett in at work the other day... from the back of the cd- "The Reggae Tribute to Jimmy Buffett is a supurb blend of the bohemian lifestyle of the gulf coast and the even more mellow pulse of Jamaica. . . performed by some of the best reggae musicians... The underlying Rasta renditions might have a different beat, and more exotic flavor, but they're still infused with that same carefree spirit whish has set parrotheads soaring high for years."

I wouldn't exactly consider them to be some of the best reggae musicians, actually Joe Ferry and Chuck St. Troy are far from the best the singer sounds like Wayne Brady... however there is a toaster player in "the weather is here, I wish you were beautiful" and by exotic, i think they mean reggae from the mini-moog synthesizer... no pans in this reggae album

Come Monday has pieces of Jamaican farewell weaved in there... and the Cheeseburger clapping rhythms... very interesting... and I can't exactly see anything remotely close to "frank and lola" in their version.

WDWGDAS has a great intro curtesy of Toots and the Maytals' "54 46 that's my number" (NO that was NOT a Sublime song, just one of the many songs Bradley Nowell covered) volcano is a combination of love and luck that is surprisingly not bad, but not good enough to listen to more than once.

final thoughts: not a good album, but what could one expect from Snake Machine Records

when I was listening to it I felt like I was stuck in some bad 80's movie about people on a cruise...
