Death Penalty
With all this talk on Terri Schiavo .....I am more concerned on on that friggin' degenerate that killed the 9yr old Lunsford in Florida!

Oh so many things I can’t remember
And way too many things I can’t forget
What time does church begin? Tell the priest I’m checking in
I want to cleanse my soul so I can do it again and again and again and again

I grew up in a world of magnolias, ice tea and feeling safe when I played outside. . . .
I woke up from that dream world on Sept. 11, 2001. . .
perhaps my views are too strong, but not for me. . . I would have no issue with every pedophile being "removed " from this world. . .
I no longer believe that everyone should be treated as an equal . .

Simple as that for me too.PalmettoSon wrote:It's not about rehabilitation. Is it our place to decide whether or not someone deserves to die? I say life in prison, no chance of parole, let God sort it out when it's time.
And spare me the " and let them live their lives in prison on the taxpayer's dime?" b.s. Everyone knows it costs taxpayers more to put someone on death row with the multiple appeals, etc, then it does to keep them in prison for life.
Prison work camps anyone?

But because we are Americans, our Constitution guarantees it. And I wouldn't want it any other way. I agree with some of your frustrations, and being the mother of a young daughter, I sometimes cringe when I hear my own self think, but no matter how unforgivable a crime may be, it's not up to me to decide if they live or die.balcony girls wrote:

Like I said, 100% in favor of the death penalty. However, I don't kid myself with terms like "deterrent" or "cost effective". I believe the way I do simply because I feel that when a person commits certain heinous acts (and I would love to broaden the definition of a capital crime, BTW), the perpetrator simply forfeits his right to share my oxygen.
You know why it's more expensive to execute a murderer than to imprison him for life? Because it is worth it!

That's a fair position to have and I don't discredit you for it, but what if an innocent person is executed? IMO, if one, single, solitary innocent person is executed for a crime they did not commit (which we know has been done), then it is wrong & immoral. I mean, we're talking about death here... ending a person's life on probable guilt. Humans are fallible, and juries are made up of humans... and they can & have been wrong.rednekkPH wrote:You know why it's more expensive to execute a murderer than to imprison him for life? But I don't even think that offer should ever be on the table. I could never serve on such a jury.AlbatrossFlyer wrote:unless you're on the jurybuffettbride wrote:[ I sometimes cringe when I hear my own self think, but no matter how unforgivable a crime may be, it's not up to me to decide if they live or die.

what would you do with a prisoner serving a life sentence w/o the chance of parole who then murdered a prison guard?iuparrothead wrote:That's a fair position to have and I don't discredit you for it, but what if an innocent person is executed?
