Did ANYONE get any info from the Casa? The 800 number said my reservation's confirmed - but I don't know if I believe THAT. Called the Casa yesterday, they said they'd be calling people back yesterday. Still nothin'.

So, lemme get this straight - I have maybe no room, maybe no gas between Miami and KW, and probably no rental car to get BACK from KW - yet I'm still going......

Gas in the Keys is easier to find than it is up on the Mainland from what I hear. The Keys have been mostly up and running on power since late last week. If you get a tank of gas with your rental car, and assuming you didn't get a Hummer... you should be able to make it from MIA to the first gas station or two past Card Sound Road.

Fingers crossed that that gets straightened out dear. Candy has been looking forward to meeting another of the Runners.

Tonga Tam called last night from Key West said all was good. The drive down was good, no problems. Said the supermarket was kinda picked over so we may want to stop in Marathon for stuff from the market. I guess the Kmart in Key West is out too. ANd the southern most bouy didnt make it too well, kinda wrecked she said. Good thing we have all had our photo taken with that stupid thing eh? Cant wait!!!

If you paid with a credit card, you should be able to contact the issuer and have them reverse the charges on the card, then use the card for the new room charges.

The Kmart and that whole shopping plaza there (I believe that is where the Radio Shack is too) took a full-on hit from the surge. The page at keysnews.com said that they had 4' of water come thru the front doors of KMart, and then blow out the back doors. "You can't believe how heavy a roll of wet paper towels really is", Key West KMart manager.

Casa called me. I have NO ROOM.

They also asked if I could ask people to be a little nicer to them, as it's not their fault. They were shocked that I didn't start freaking on them. More on that later - but....apparently they've been threatened with litigation and everything. Very uncool, as they're refunding everything.

I have no clue what I'm going to do. Anyone with hotel recommendations, I'd appreciate it. Dunno if I'm going to make it, and I'm supposed to fly out at 11:57 tomorrow morning.

Check with Atlantic Shores, right now. It's next door to the Reach.

FYI - Atlantic Shores is full, per lady at the Casa. Can't work on this until I leave here at 4, unfortunately.
