Tailgating or concert

Post by lookingat40 »

Just wondering...if Jimmy isn't coming to your town would a big Tailgating bash from noon-11pm complete with partying, drinking, and steros blasting and everything else that goes with it be a substitute if 15, 000 people showed up in the parking lot?

I think part of the fun of the tailgate is the anticipation of the show... not sure if I really want to spend $20.00 just to drink in a parking lot and have nor show to go to.

However, my friends and family do get together each year for a Buffett themed party and although it is not quite the same as the tailgate, we always have a great time.

interesting question, I go for the concert but last summer at Fenway it just wasnt quite the same without the party in the parking lot
Both shows at Greatwoods in June
Seattle and Vegas in October

Girlfriend doesn't realize that shes going to be a parrothead by the end of this summer whether she likes it or not.

I agree... Fenway was not the same last year... I need the tailgating before the show... I hate to admit it but there have been a couple of times that I was having such a good time in the parking lot that I did not want to go inside to the concert... Of course I did, but I always have a blast in the parking lot!!!! I'm definitely looking forward to the GW parking lot this year! It's nice to be back there!!!

Less than 3 months!!

Oh the pain.

Post by Salt for 40 »

I think it would help ease the pain.

Also, having a bunch of your Buffett type friends over for a BBQ, listening to a live show on radio margaritaville would also help.

That's my plan for the summer. :P

Gotta have the show...party is great, but the show is why I'm there.

We don't need a reason to party up here, but it would be a fun alternative since Alpine Valley is off this summer's tour. I think they're working on something over on the "alpine not happening" thread.

See, I'm exactly the opposite. The show is great, but I NEED the party with fellow parrotheads! 8)

A lot of venues say no tailgating but they never enforce it. If they did, it wouldn't bother me. I go for the music.

I keep saying this but no one believes me...the Woodlands Pavilion does enforce it.

Yup. Same here. Now, having said that, I *love* MOTM. Jimmy has shown up there more than once, but I don't count on it at all. I go to MOTM to hang with friends and listen to music I like. So, while it doesn't absolutely have to be a JB show, a gathering has to involve a musical event to be appealing to me.....

If your trying to say in place of alpine, a big party, then I say I will boycott that party and any other parrothead gathering. Jimmy should know better than too skip the holiest of concert cathedral's known as alpine. Any substitute should be considered a ludicrous and preposterous lack of respect for the Valley known as Alpine.

I have to say, the all day affair in the parking lot is a blast! The show is almost a letdown, just because it means the party is almost over. The music is like the grand finale, but I need the parking lot to call it a true event.

Hey, it worked in the movies and if it doesn't you'll still have one helluva party.
