That's all I know. :D
Yup. A brief history lesson:

Some french bastards were sailing down from the Carolinas to attack St. Augustine. Bad weather blew them really far south, around Daytona, and destroyed their ships. They marched northward, but the Spaniards knew. The Spaniards ambushed them at the bay entrance on the south end of anastasia island, where Fort Matanzas is. The Spaniards killed every soldier, thus the bay (and fort) being named Matanzas.

I have to agree that Saltwater Cowboys is overrated. Check out the Gypsy Cab Company for some tasty food. Also, for hanging out and drinking beer, try the Oasis. Have a good time!

Oasis is definitely a hotspot for partying and getting hammered...which you have to eat their crappy food

I believe it's somewhere in oldtown.
I'm sure I've walked by it a hundred times

Excuse me for being so late on this, I have been in Hawaii watching Jimmy(shameless bragging). I live just north of St Augustine in Vilano Beach and here are a few of my favorite places. To see: the fort, the Fountain of youth, St George st, walking along the beach, Flagler college tour, ghost tours. To eat: Caps on the water, Vilano beach, good food great view a little expensive. The Oasis on A1A south of St Augustine beach great food no view, cheap prices. A1A Ale works at the bridge of Lions, The Columbia restaurant on St George st. Shopping, check out the palm bay republic for Buffett related stuff, now in two locations. Things NOT to do: wax museum, Ripleys believe it or not (unless it rains and you have a couple of adult beverages before you go) Santa Maria restaurant. Harrys bar and grill, too bad it used to be good) Bars: I don't go to bars too often but you should go to the Tradewinds. I hope that you find this helpful and that you enjoy our little town, we think its pretty darned nice.

Probably the Tradewinds. Mark Hart is the house musician. Cool joint.

If you get adventurous, try to find the Outback Crab Shack. The bikers
love it, so you know it has to be good. It's inland a ways, but the setting
is well worth the search. http://www.theoutbackcrabshack.com It's pretty
much the type of place you'd expect to see the "early Jimmy" playing on
the deck from a barstool. And walking the looonnng floating dock is a
great way to work off a meal... just don't do it drunk. Lots of gators!!

They put concrete on the floor there recently. Not all of it, mainly just the end by the woods/swamp.
A couple of years ago when my son was still using highchairs we were eating there and he kept dropping his french fries on the floor.
Everytime I looked down they were not to be seen.
Finally I looked down to see 2 big rats that had climbed up through the wooden plank floor beneath our table.
The manager came over real calm and quiet as to not make a scene of the problem. I've been back a lot since and have been told the problem was taken care of.
I think that is the reason for the concrete now but I still go there.
Their crab legs are the best!!!!!
If I had been thinking I could have had free beer for a while

Down there last weekend.....it was so damn obvious, I did know where it was...it's right on the corner of Menendez and that other main road that has the Wax museum on it. The view is great, great cocktails...but I wasn't real impressed with their food. The mahi mahi sandwich with mango ketchup was pretty good, the chicken w/ mango salsa was just ok...nothing outstanding. I was a bit disappointed.

TradeWinds makes a damn good margarita

We were just there for the day in February. They have a pretty neat pirate museum. Really you can't go wrong from just walking around and taking it all in. I agree with whoever said its a poor mans key west
