Just a different point of view and I know I will get attacked for this. When the man wants to retire how about letting him retire? I know when I hit the retireing age I don't want anyone bothering me to do one more year.
When the time does come for JB to retire I will still have all the CD's ., books, and PH friends to keep the memories alive a lifetime. So for now I will collect as many of those memories as I can.
Unitll then of coarse I will enjoy the real thing. As said earlier though, he does not act 60. I think he still has alot of spunk left in him. In ASPOL does'nt Cleopatra talk of the sun filled life keeping her alive so long? Of coarse who does she get her words from?
" I am but just a small bug on the windshield of life"
This of course would be devastating to all who listen to his music and come away with a soul healing experience. That is exactly what Jimmy's music does for me...it soothes my soul. Jimmy has opened my eyes to new worlds and broadened my horizons. I don't like to think he will retire but acceptance is the answer to all of my problems today. I have seen a few Buffett shows and I have to say that the evening with Jimmy, (the book reading broadcast) was the most intimate and about as close to a personal experience with JB as i will ever get. If he does retire soon, I will still have that to hold close. What shocks and amazes me is that he may never know how much his music has touched the lives of so many of us in a deep and personal way. I listen to Jimmy everyday and periodically my favorite Buffett album changes. He has made and continues to make such quality music that touches the soul. Another thing that amazes me is that with virtually no airplay, magazine articles or extreme publicity he continues to increase his fan base. I must admit that I am a late comer to being a parrotthead. i have only been a parrotthead for the last six or seven years but in that time my world changed. I used to listen to heavy and hard music but i was also a drunk who became homeless. When I stopped boozing/drugging it was Jimmy's music that has helped me in this new world. How is that for irony? A large portion of his songs are drink related and his signature song is about a frozen concoction with Tequila, lol. That is how powerful his music can be. I could continue to go on and on but I am sure I am not the only one who has been touched by Jimmy's music in a deep and personal way. Let's enjoy each song, each show for as long as the wind is in our sails, (or Jimmy's as that may be). There will still be radiomargaritaville, the extensive Buffett music collection, live show memories and the parrotthead convention/cruises all over the world. Life without Jimmy would be quite empty but even if/when he retires we still have all of that to hold on to. Enjoy it and thank him for all of the years that he gave to us. Then let's wish him well. I'm sure his family needs him a lot more than we do. Thanks Jimmy but please.....reconsider, lol!!!! Sorry this post was so long phlock!
As Jimmy has called himself many times, he is a shameless promoter, the more you beleive he's gonna retire, the more you will do to get to his shows. Don't underestimate Jimmy the businessman
I'm not so sure Jimmy's in it just for the $$s these days (although there's no question he expects to get what he is worth). So why is he still going? Well, as he's a confessed workaholic, just heading off to sit by the beach isn't likely. I think the truth lies in that he loves the challenge, audience feedback, and high that performing gives him. He'll likely stop when one or more of the following happens: 1) he can't physically or mentally do it any longer (e.g. sings flat or needs a teleprompter), 2) he gets bored or tired of the whole touring and big show routine, 3) he wants to do something else with his time (e.g. is producing a movie limiting this year's tour schedule?).
That said, JB won't give up performing. He'll show up and play unannounced at beach front bars around the Caribbean (or wherever) and Margaritaville Cafes until he can truly no longer do it. He's commented that when writing books he misses the immediate response to his work, so he just grabs a guitar and performs just to capture the energy and feedback from an audience. I suspect that passion and need are too deeply ingrained to ever leave him. You can take the sailor away from the sea, but you can never take the sea out of the sailor...or something like that.

Its been a fun ride,me personally,Ive been a fan since the mid 70's...I grew up in south Fla. ya know. But I think when he hits 60 he should call it a career. We can hook on to that Chasney fella I suppose

He may stop touring but he'll never stop playing. IMHO - He'll see it as some type of romantic finish. Big time star just fades away playing small shows at random bars around the world. In fact it kind of brings him full circle.
I haven't been to a show in over two years and to be honest, I don't miss them that much so his retirement really won't affect me. I think that there are only so many times that you can hear those "songs that he plays to death" before you realize that every other song is a bathroom break.
