Look at Bruce's Ticket Policy....
Jimmy should do this. It would eliminate the scalping of his tickets and allow the phans better chance of getting tickets.
Bruce Springsteen
There is a 2 ticket limit per person!
For customers purchasing tickets in Sections 1, 2, or 3, the following Will Call policies apply:
The credit card holder MUST pick up their tickets at will call the night of the show. If the credit card holder isn't coming to the show, they can not purchase tickets.
Will Call will open at 4pm. Doors open at 6:30pm.

F1NZZZ TO THE LEFT........
At the Orpheum in Boston it is even more strict:
Tickets will be distributed starting at 10am on May 20th at the Orpheum Theatre,1 Hamilton Place,Boston,Ma.
The purchaser must pick up the tickets and have the companion going with them there. The purchaser will show a valid Drivers License or picture identification and the exact credit card that purchased the tickets. No exceptions. Both people will be wristbanded and when they come back will need their wristbands on and tickets to get into the event. All people who pickup tickets will be wristbanded, including those who choose to pickup at the event.
I am for fighting scalpers, but as far as most shows go a policy like that would be a nightmare to handle. The Orpheum only holds 2500. Think what it would be like at a 20,000 seat venue. You would be waiting for hours just to get you tickets.
It looks like those policies for picking up tickets only applies for the small theaters he is playing, not the larger venues.

Simply put, Bruce cares. It is a shame and insulting that Buffett has never tried to do something like this. I mean would advance ticket sales for a "phan club" really be that hard to organize. Sure, we have RM, but how many people actually listen to the shows? I'd trade RM's live feed in a heartbeat for a chance to purchase advance tickets through mail order.
"Some people never find it..."
Islereef... call up Jones Beach, and ask them about VIP Season Tickets in the first few rows (really, the ONLY way to get good front Orchestra seats at that venue). Then, divide that amount by the average amount of shows there, and see what the ACTUAL COST is for those seats. it is around $500/pr. They're not makin much, I promise you.
...not to mention, they have to shell out TENS of thousands of dollars in the Spring for these.
Plus, do you think that they can get $500/pr for Judas Priest? of course not... (no offense, any JP fans...). So, they try to make money on the higher demand shows, just so they can cover their losses on the crappier ones.
You too can get tickets this way to Great Woods. Second Row Center (Section 2, Row B) is only $24,000 for the year. They play about 40 shows/year there. That's $600/pr.

Thats an interesting policy Bruce has. I hate the scalpers, and anything that will make things more difficult for them, I think is a good idea. About the RM question...I dont listen to all of them, but every now and then I might catch one. And a BIG thanks to JB for giving us the opportunity to hear the shows live on RM!!jbfins wrote:Simply put, Bruce cares. Jimmy did institute a similar policy for his salty piece of land reading in new orleans a few months ago where people with tickets in the first few sections needed to present their credit card on the day of the show to pick up their tickets, this was also a much smaller show than the parrothead shows so the policy was probably much easier to establish
Both shows at Greatwoods in June
Seattle and Vegas in October
Girlfriend doesn't realize that shes going to be a parrothead by the end of this summer whether she likes it or not.

I'm not in favor of a fan club presale. I think the same thng would happen to us that happened to U2 fans. Even if it involved picking up the tickets at willcall, whats to stop the scalpers from doing that? Yeah it might be the day of the show, but we know half of them scalp the tickets before they even have hem in hand anyways. I cant say I like the way it is now, but it at least gives us somewhat of a fair shot, and the same chances as scalpers.PA PAR8 HED wrote:I'd be in favor of a wristband policy for a fan club presale. As long as will call opens up early enough. I think that would allow fans to get some good seats and discourage scalpers.
Might take some time from your tailgating, but would be worth it.

Fan Club presales are just a way for the (scam) Artists like U2 to cash in on Fan Club membership fees. The scalpers join the fan club and simply add the cost to their scalper prices. I am all for ticket limits (2 is a little harsh) and I am all for wristbanding to insure that the actual credit card holder attends the show. In these times when entire stadiums are filled with corporate sponsored seats and the true fans get pushed to the back or the parking lot, it is time for drastic measures. Way to go Bruce. Jimmy are you listening?

Fan clubs work if you do it right. I belong to the warehouse dave matthews fan club. last year i had tickets to 4 shows through the fan club. You can only get a max of 2 tickets per show. you can only order up to 4 shows per series. Well any way if you get tickets through his fan club they will send you a email letting you know that they might ship them to you a few weeks before the show or it will be a will call. Well mine ended up at will call but when i went there they said i had to wait to talk to someone else. A couple of hours brfore the show i finally talked to this guy who had my tickets and alot of other peoples. we had to walk in to the pavilion, show him id then he ripped the tickets and we were off to see the concert. There was no way of me walking out a selling them to someone else im already inside the gates. So when you get tickets from the warehouse you dont know if your getting them in the mail or if its will call or this new will call thing they set up. If you have pavilion seats they wont even tell you where your seats are until a few weeks before the show also. This probably deters alot of scalpers away from there fan club.
Legalize It!!!!!

Just a question regarding tickets, do the folks on this board draw a line between ticket brokers and ticket scalpers? Is there just as much angst for brokers, or do you look at them in the same light as scalpers, or is there even a difference? I'm neither, just curious. I agree Jimmy could take some measures to get "phans" better access to tickets.

Sorry, just to add to my last line above...why would Jimmy take such actions. It may be an unpopular statement, but it's pretty clear Jimmy is very interested in making money these days (see calaborations, restaurants, books, merchandise, more restaurants, larger venues). I can't blame him, but how much $ does he really need?

I consider brokers just as bad if not worse.F1NZUPP wrote:Just a question regarding tickets, do the folks on this board draw a line between ticket brokers and ticket scalpers? I'm curious why you think that way. Do you think of insurance brokers or mortgage brokers the same way? Isn't a ticket broker just an occupation. Now, scalpers on the other hand, they operate illegally and are usually very shady and unethical, but if a broker operates within the law and is ethical, I don't have a problem with that.
