Is there any better place?
The azelea and dogwood in full bloom, the stone bridge, Amen Corner, the magic that is Augusta National, not even spoiled by Billy Caspers 106. man I want to see this place someday.
While it is true all the beauty covers up a lot of warts (Hooty, is your white robe and hood back from the cleaners?) For the next four days I do not care.

Did you see the prices people are getting for tickets? And we complain about Buffett scalpers. But no question, its IMO one of the most beautiful courses in the US.Cubbie Bear wrote:The azelea and dogwood in full bloom, the stone bridge, Amen Corner, the magic that is Augusta National, not even spoiled by Billy Caspers 106. man I want to see this place someday.

Or you can simply go to Augusta and people just about give them away.Gypsy In The Palace wrote:You know that you can enter the lottery to try to win practice tickets. My dad has entered every year since '98 and won twice.
It was much better before Tiger won. People literally had to give away the practice rounds because no one wanted to go. The next year, practice round tickets were about $150. Now they are more resonable around $10-20.
I know the tournament badges I used to get, now go for about $5000 a piece.

Oh, and Cubbie, yes there is a better place. Amen Corner is too crowded and unless you set up there when the gates open, you'll be hard pressed to find a spot with a view.
Before they extended number 11, you could go up there and sit in the shade all day. There is a slow down on 11 because its a blind drive over the hill. Because of that, the golfers (the nice ones at least) take time and interact with the fans. One year Fuzzy started passing out candy bars and bottles of water from the players' cooler.
Unfortunately, when they lengthened 11 they also put tv cameras back there. Now the players don't get to goof off as much.

Yeah practice round tickets are attainable. I may settle and go down for a practice round, but I am going to hold out a few more years hoping to score tickets. I would like to go to a practice round as well just so I could take in more of the course. My dad got tickets a year or so ago, but I couldn't make it. Worse though, my brother-in-law used to do the sports on one of the Augusta networks and he got to play the course the day after the final round.
Do I dare disturb the universe?

I've been to both practice and tournament rounds. Let me tell you it is two different worlds in just about ever aspect you can imagine.
The players aren't really playing. Many times they will drop extra balls, just to check clubs and swing paths. They rarely ever aim for the hole. In stead, they aim for where they expect the hole to be during the tournament. It is also a crap shoot as to who is going to play that day. While they all have the option to play, many of the big names don't come out or stay out for long.
The crowd is very different. During practice you have everyone and their brother there. People in sleeveless shirts and cut off shorts. Loud people that don't really know much about golf. People that actually, gasp, litter. (Luckily, all wrappers and cups are green so that if someone does litter you can't see it on tv.) During the tournament there are two types of people there. People that have had the tickets in their family for generations and people that dropped $1000 or more per badge, per day. Either way, the people that are there during the tournament respect the grounds, the course, and the tradition. Many people know the Pinkertons and starter by name.
It truly is an awe inspiring event for any golf fan. However after going to the tournament, it is hard to appreciate the practice rounds.
