I am thinking about getting a wireless aircard for my laptop at home.
Anybody use one for home or work and have an opinion?

I'm looking at the Novatec V620 from Verizon Wireless. It's $50 after online rebate and then an unlimited $80 a month plan.

ummm, i have one it works pretty well, thats about as helpful as i can be b/c i have no clue what kind it is! sorry! (im not on the laptop now)

I'm a laptop nerd. It sounds like it will do ya fine. But one thing about verizon's stuff is the speed. Don't expect to see 700K on a constant basis. I tried out the service during a trip to orlando about a month ago. WHen I heard about it finally being available I just had to try it. It's alright. Personally I wouldn't buy into it. But that's me..plus I have no need to. I don't know about your area..it may do a little better, but as much as the guy hyped it up I was kinda dissapointed. Good Luck though, i'm sure as it's around longer it will get better

I'm kinda torn because I have had cable for years now and I'm very used to it. Moving to something slower would be a bummer, but the added option of being able to use it anywhere in the house/work is VERY intriguing.

Ok, I got my card yesterday and went to install the software and it says I don't have a wi-fi adapter.

Can anybody tell me what a wi-fi adapter is? How much? What is a decent one?

I use a Linksys WPC11. It works well for me.

I have the Sprint version. I like it and it has pulled me out of many tough times. Always nice to be able to pull it out of the bag and hop on the net.

If you are using it in your home why are you getting an aircard? Why not just get a wireless router to your cable broadband and a wi-fi card? $80 a month is pretty steep unless you are using the internet on the road as part of your business

You will get better speed with cable internet access and a wireless G router. For travel though the sprint wireless or verizon aircard come in VERY handy.

He also wants to be able to take it to work and use it at home...It's something to try.
as for your problem...the WiFi adapter is what you just bought. What should happen is you make sure any other wireless devices, such as a network card are disabled in the device manager.Next plug your WiFi card into the PMCIA slot in the side of our lappy. I assume you're running XP, so XP should automatically recognize the card and install it as a "Wireless Device"...now you can use the drive CD and install any specific drivers and utilities. Just be sure you have the card in before you attempt to install any drivers
