Yes, it is. Jim's cover is much more like JJW's cover of the song. And thanks to Guy Clark for providing them with such a kick ass song!
I do enjoy the JJW version as well. I hope to be able to hear Jims version soon.

I got the cd today and I like it so far.
I've noticed pedal steel on some songs and it fits good.

1.Mary Jane goes to Key West is a fun island anthem from a woman's point of view. Nice to hear about a lady hitting the islands.
2.Pretend you're In Tahiti is a great tropical song about what to do when things aren't going too well.
3.Booze Is the duct tape of Life continues the tradition of some of his country/funny songs like "Strong Whiskey Big Glasses" or "Why can't a woman learn to say goodbye like a man"
4.Cosmic Magician has great steel drums and I love the message about something/one bigger out there controlling things.
5.L.A. Freeway is actually much better than I was thinking it would be. It rocks just as much as when I saw him do it live with the band.
6.A lot going on in his head is a slow song like "Captain Jack is coming back" or "To see her now". Very good. The story sorta reminds me of Jimmy's "He went to Paris"
7.I don't want to go home is a mellow island anthem about a woman in love with the islands. Sorta reminds me someone I know in a similar situation
8.Divers do it deeper is a David Allan Coe cover that's gonna have to grow on me since I love DAC's version so much.
9.12:15 on New Year's Day sounds like it could be a sequel to "too early for that kind of drinking". I think Jim is really good at these types of ballads.
10.Three days at Marilyn's is an acoustic song recalling good times with an old flame. I really like this one too.
11.I am woe is another humorous song but I really don't know what to think about this one. It's also kind of depressing in a funny way...if that's possible.

Nice review Michael! Here's mine:

1.Mary Jane goes to Key West- one of my new favorite songs since I do drive a rag top and can REALLY relate.
2.Pretend you're In Tahiti- makes me laugh every time I hear it.
3.Booze Is the Duct Tape of Life- the story behind this song is about as funny as the song itself - you can read how the lyrics to all these songs came about in the first Jim Morris Fan Club newsletter (shameless plug)
4.Cosmic Magician- love this song. Very well done.
5.L.A. Freeway- still love it live best but I love the song and will take it any way I can get it.
6.A Lot Going On In His Head- very nice mellow song
7.I Don't Want To Go Home- my new favorite song. I can't tell you how many times I've felt like this. LOVE Lapio's pans in this song.
8.Divers Do It Deeper- I agree with Michael on this one word for word. Kinda wish if he were going to put a DAC song on the CD that it would have been Perfect Country Love Song instead.
9.12:15 on New Year's Day- my new favorite song (seeing a pattern here?) Jim writes these types of songs SO WELL and says a lot to the fact that an acoustic show can be SO different from the shows with the band since you don't usually hear these types of songs at a show with the band.
10.Three days at Marilyn's- We should hear this song a lot at an acoustic show.
11.I Am Woe- Cute little song that makes me laugh.....every time!

Bottom line is that this CD has a little for everyone. I think we'll all enjoy it a lot.

Joey left the band in January. He's having fun sailing the waters in SW Florida and doing some studio recording. Tommy was the bass player before Joey and now he's back. GREAT guy, extremely talented.

Well Joey was always happy to let us buy him a Red Stripe when he was in town...I'll miss him for that.

But I'm sure Tommy will be just as accepting :D

I had a chance to give it a few good listens, and I think it has gotten better every time! Some of my favorites...

"Mary Jane goes to Key West" is a much better driving down US 1 song than Conky Tonkin'

"Pretend You're In Tahiti" is something we all should continue to do, although I hope we don't get in as much trouble.

"Cosmic Magician" great steel drums

"I Don't Want to Go Home", if it were written from a male perspective, he could be singing about me.

After MUCH listening, I can say that my favorite song on the new CD has to be 12:15am on New Years Day. The song has many elements to it and Murphy's piano work is super! Hopefully I'll hear it live in a couple of weeks in Delaware or St Michael's.
