charcoal or gas?
Just wondering what you guys prefer?
Kingsford hands down all the way. Never owned a gas grill, never will. Some people say gas is easier, which is probably true, but there's something about an open flame, good meat, good friends, and cold beer, that just can't be beat!

I have tried the other brands the issue is not that Kingsford
is better. it is that is the same way all the time
one time the off brand will work well and the next time you have to
pour 1/2 a gallon of gas on to get it lit..

I have a gas grill at home and I like it because its a lot less hassle, but I would agree that charcoal does give a little better flavor.

That was a joke I was making an example of how hard it is toBoozeInTheBlender wrote:Gas?ragtopW wrote:I have a smoker and you are right Kingsford all the way

get the off brand stuff to light.
also try rubbing alcohol it leaves less "taste" on the meat..
and in some areas they are banning Lighter fluid..
really mine works great. 4-5 burgers up and served in 5 minutesSidew13 wrote:ragtopW wrote:I wonder why they don't make the paper ones any more..![]()

that is from the time you put the match to paper to the time you
are taking the first bite..
with my Dads and mine I can have 20 burgers served in fifteen. minutes
or so..

CHARCOAL ONLY WAY TO GO!
Kingsford always works for me too!!!
Weber makes a nice little portable grill. I used one at the marina all the time when I had my boat....
I agree gas is easier, but then if I wanted to cook with gas,...I would just do it over a burner on my stove....
I have seen numerous and various charcoal lighters one trick I found was the purple "TRIOX" fuel tabs when I was the Air Force... those babies would start charcoal faster than anything I ever saw!
I tried some sort of green goo that was all natural ... it was a gel and I guess I never used enough of it on the charcoal cause it did not work too well.
Someone told me about newspaper being used for a lighter but I never tried it... (I stick with a good brand of charcoal lighter fluid...) I think I saw something about how to use newspaper as a lighter on the web somewhere not real sure now....

I prefer charcoal for bbq. It provides a unique flavor that gas grills can't. I understand that charcoal is not environment friendly but unless you have a well seasoned grill, the gas just does not do it. The only thing a good gas grill has going for it is even heat distribution and high BTUs. I have a smoker, and smoke hundreds of pounds of salmon and babyback ribs each year. I only use wood for the smoking, never charcoal. There ya have one person's outlook on it.
