I am not worthy, Boston Fins, you are a true Dead Head, or a person with way too much time on your hands. You brought back many memories of Dead shows. I still miss the days of needing a password to get down on the floor with the "Faithful", brownies is the parking lot, mail order tickets to sidetrack the scalpers, the twirlers that are still dancing in my head making me dizzy, although I do not miss the naked people, or the naked drum circles, some things just freak me out. Naked, unbathed hippies, freaked me out. Or maybe it was the brownies.... I saw a mere 55 shows, whimpy by Dead standards, but I actually made several of the recorded shows on your list. You did a great job of covering all the published recordings of Scarlet Begonias less the "Files form the Vault" DVDs. There must be an additional 1000 or so bootleg recordings from various shows as well.

For those interested, the Dead were one of the first bands that made an honest attempt to eliminate scalpers. Their mail order ticket system insured that tickets stayed in the hands of the fans. The "faithful" did their part by never charging more than face+fees, and they never bought tickets from scalpers, even chasing scalpers away from the parking lot and surrounding areas. Scalpers knew they were not welcomed and for the most part, stayed away. On several occassions "I need a miracle.." and a Dead Head gave me free a free ticket.

Man do we miss Jerry. Jerry by the way was a big Parrothead, and could often be spotted in the first few rows at a JB show. One of my best JB show memories was at Shoreline, 3rd row with Jerry sitting two rows in front of me. Thanks Bostonfins, you made my day.
do you think he just named all those from memory?

It dosn't really matter where he got it from. Deadheads are great people!!! If it wasn't for my support group of mostly Deadheads I don't think I could make it thru my health issues sanely.

Ok so sane is a relative term
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

I was always a Dead fan, but Begonias is the only JB cover that I skip, just can't listen to it. I mean, would I want to hear the Dead play Margaritaville? I don't think so.

Wow! I think just the opposite. I think Jimmy did a fantastic job with it.

I agree he did a great job with it but i just don't like it. Don't know why, it's just not a Buffettesque song.

Thanks Mol, thought I was alone on this, seems to be a popular song by JB but I skip it.

After finally hearing the Dead's original and Sublime's cover I think JB's is the best and much more energetic. Even kinda tropical feeling with the conga breakdown. To each his own though. I like how he can "Buffettize" a song, sometimes a song you would not expect and in most cases make it better than the original which is tough to do.

While I like Buffett's versions of "Uncle John's Band" and "Scarlet Begonias" I can't honestly sayI like them better than the originals.
