They got paid for quite a while - but not enough to live on - its only been recently that players (last 20 years) didnt hold down a "day job" to make ends meet....weirdo0521 wrote:I thought rugby league has been professional for a long time, and Rugby Union just became fully professional within the last ten yearscreeky wrote:I dont think league was pro for many years after it was invented. It became obscenely professional when Rupert Murdoch stuck his nose in a few years back and tried to totally privatise the clubs (they are owned by the "people" still) .
He has now removed his stupid nose and we are much happier he is GONE!

Well I see what you mean...but rugby league has always been considered "pro" even if they did not make enough to live on...much like the earlt NFL...once a Union player played League he could never play Union againcreeky wrote:They got paid for quite a while - but not enough to live on - its only been recently that players (last 20 years) didnt hold down a "day job" to make ends meet....weirdo0521 wrote:I thought rugby league has been professional for a long time, and Rugby Union just became fully professional within the last ten yearscreeky wrote:I dont think league was pro for many years after it was invented. We have them switching about these days - union players coming to league, league going to union - all chasing the mighty dollar .....weirdo0521 wrote:Well I see what you mean...but rugby league has always been considered "pro" even if they did not make enough to live on...much like the earlt NFL...once a Union player played League he could never play Union againcreeky wrote:They got paid for quite a while - but not enough to live on - its only been recently that players (last 20 years) didnt hold down a "day job" to make ends meet....weirdo0521 wrote:I thought rugby league has been professional for a long time, and Rugby Union just became fully professional within the last ten yearscreeky wrote:I dont think league was pro for many years after it was invented.
