i'm pretty sure you have to use the kid's original birth certificate if they don't have a passport. no copy's..... but check either the state dept. or the custom's dept. website for what's acceptable. if you went thru a travel agent they should know too.. or check with jeep, she would know.

kids aren't going to mexico with us, just to california in july. as far as i know, we don't need passports to go to San Diego.   but yes, when travelling w/ the kiddos, you need to have the original birth certificate, AND if your last name doesn't match the kids last name, you also need a marriage license or divorce decree or something to prove that you aren't kidnapping them.

And DKD knows we'll all vouch for who she really is...won't we? :P

And Mal...as of today, you DON'T need a passport for Cali. That could change tomorrow tho. Stay tuned.  :P

I'm liking you more and more, Tikibar! I LOVE that song. First heard it during my very first road trip with aunt BG#2 to FLA. Went to a watermelon suckoff contest on the beach! (don't remember much after that :o )

If you are just going with ID and birth certificate, you will also need your marriage license to prove the name change. We traveled like this once, then got passports. They are sooo much easier. They also take 6-8 weeks to get, unless you pay mucho dinero to get one in 2 weeks.

I signed my maiden name, not Quint's last name.

I have a feeling this mistake is going to cost me another $93.50.
You can relax. In Florida, You dont sign the actual license until you get married.. in front of the clergy or notary. You must have signed the application...in which case you should sign your current name.

Yeah...that's what I've heard. Hubby's stressin' out a bit about it.

has that law that says you have to have a passport to come back from Mexico and Canada taken effect yet??
I think so. Everyone I've talked to says I need to have it.   And we've booked all of our travel for this year in my married name.

You won't need it for Canada until 2007. Think that's enough time, BEG?? :D

Given the attitude and intellect of some of the folks working in the passport offices...might still be a crap shoot. :-?

I still want to find Anne on PEI! I've NEVER been to Canada. :(
