it all has to do with one's position and priorities. . .

right now, I have no responsibilites as far as keets go and my money is my money. . but I do remember eating PB&J for lunch at work every day, just to save up for a concert ticket.

also, BG2 and I are both single, so we can travel together and share expenses. . . one half of most of the list is much easier on the pocketbook . . we also split the costs up, buy your concert ticket this month, book your airline next month, then the room charge comes later. . .

the important thing is to not allow the good feeling to get clouded with the coulda, woulda, shoulda..

probably all of us are/have been stretched from making plans for Jimmy. . just hang in there. . .I'm living proof it gets easier. .

party when you can, but don't lose the reason . .Jimmy helps us make it thru the good days, and bad. . .

now, how 'bout I buy you a beer. . ? ? ?

:D

I have no problem with when someone became a fan and the "real" Jimmy fan is your terminology, not mine. All I was saying is that he will not be 2 short of a sell-out if I don't go

Some of you crack me up.

Someone make a point... someone else offers another point.... and all of a sudden someone else accuses another of not being a "true" parrothead. Go figure.

The whole idea of a thread is to offer ideas and promote discussion. Accusing people of who or what they are...when you know nothing about them is absurd!

I happen to be in a place where I work hard and can afford to play hard. If you aren't in that place... or you choose to spend your money elsewhere, then so be it.

I am not judging... just offering a suggestion that it doesn't have to cost a fortune to enjoy a show.

But as for being a "true" phan.... I think I qualify since I have been a phan for a few years....I guess seeing Jimmy sitting on a bar stool with a guitar in 1974 playing for tips, watching him open for the Eagles in 77, buying every CD, tape and being a steady customer since before Margaritaville.com was around and seeing every show since he started touring in the Tampa Bay area doesn't count anymore.

I read this board for 2 years before posting.... and I finally decided to join the fun. So please.... do not cast stones at people trying to offer another point of view.

Ok sometimes my thinking is skewed by other factors in my life going on but I don't think I saw anyone saying that anyone wasn't a "true" parrothead. I said that some of us take our tailgateing more seriously and that 's a fact in any tailgating venue/function. Go to you next professional football game. Some people have huge grills and some just have a box of fried chicken. Does that make any one more of a football fan than the other - NO. It just means that one fan takes his tailgating more seriously than the other. There's nothing wrong with that and just because one parrothead eats bologna sandwiches at a tailgate vs one carting in a whole beach scene complete with palm trees dosn't make either a truer parothead.

And again I say it all boils down to ticket prices and the greed of the performer/promoter/venue. Yes all three play a part in the cost of tickets.

Exactly....

And I think its up to the fan to decide if they want or can travel to see the concert... After all, it would be impossible for the artist to come to everyone's hometown...

Last year I couldn't get the Monday after the Fenway Park show off from work. I drove home from Boston to Long Island, over 200 miles, right after the show so I could go to work Monday morning. I took the redeye home from Las Vegas this past weekend, landed in NY 10:00 Monday morning, took a cab from the airport to the office, worked all day and went to the Eagles concert Monday night. Some of us older parrotheads can still party.

In some ways it is about supply and demand. Right now everywhere demand is ahead of the supply. I've paid a lot in the past for up close tickets and had the time of my life. I don't think it is about being a true anything, it is more about what a person wants or what they have available to spend on a night with Jimmy. Cubbie's choice is a wise one for his family at this time, but he is still a true (whatever that is) PH in my view. Just before he posted his thoughts, I was thinking about trying to go to Chicago. Yesterday, I did the research on a new HD TV and it did enter my into my thoughts about the cost of Jimmy vs HD, that is what happens when these prices get this high. It is just a choice and I may well go see JB, but I understand and respect those who do not.

there is no doubt its expensive, I'm considering doing one of the rumored dates in vegas in the 'cheap $65 seats' and could almost pull it off for the same price or cheaper than wrigley...but, I am one that believes that my number of Jimmy shows are limited b/c I can't imagine him doing this forever in such a planned, embelished environment...it would really irritate me if I heard him say something like 'and to the city of chicago I bid you my last Labor Day weekend show' and not being there to hear it...I usually pull off 7 shows a year and this year it may be more like 3 due to the dates and cities...it will only take to about the second song of the set to justify everything, the planning, lurking on these boards for dates, taking time off work to attempt to get tickets...

it won't be cheap, but its something we love to do or we wouldn't be reading this board. I dumped more money than I'd like to think about a few years back in vegas seeing JB at the MGM on back to back nights over Memorial day weekend...partying hard and being surronded by people who liked to do the same...it was great and I'd do it again in a heartbeat...the price of everything changes, its just the way of the world because people are willing to pay...I don't think people should say that Jimmy is out to make a buck or some people are bigger phans than others...everyone has to decide which path to take from time to time, no need to belittle those that don't take the same path...

Cubbie...I totally understand and commend your choice. It's a bummer, yes...but not to your girls. I'd hate for my children to ever have the idea I chose Jimmy over them.

AND...if you ever come to Denver for a show...you can stay at my house AND bring your girls.

I can vouch for you being a tough old dude. The walk from MGM to M'ville last Oct in Vegas was a killer. I think I hated it more than you!

I hope to buy 6, use 1, and scalp 5 to pay for my ticket, transportation, accomodations, food and drink! :D

Sounds easy enough, but I couldn't do it, even though I know others will. If I have that good of luck, I will share it with 5 friends, whether I know them or not.

This time - looks like a tailgate at home...

8) I think it's time to get one of those FM transmitter gadgets, put on Radio Margaritaville, and chill with my phellow phans in the backyard - helluva lot less expense and hassle. Don't get me wrong - I love strappin' on the fin to the van, loading the grill, packing the coolers, etc - Jimmy's a great time!!! The BEST!!! I think I'll pass on the cubbie scene though. I'll just have to live with my decision I suppose.
