Lived by the water all of my life (both coasts of Florida, coastal South Carolina), and I've never heard it pronounced like launch with the exception of a few tourists who were quickly corrected.

The ones that pronounce it "konch" are the same ones that are bewildered that you can actually get a dolphin sandwich at a restaurant.

Usually spring breakers and virgin tourists.
